Shades of Black: Sylvan Esso @ The Ready Room (3/17/2015)

A weblog by Obi Orjih (a.k.a. Obezma). Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Sylvan Esso @ The Ready Room (3/17/2015). Flock of Dimes. Missed them/him, as usual. I think they played all the songs off their debut (and only) album. Plus one new song that I didn't know. They brought a decent light set for a small act. I liked how they programmed the light rig to synchronize to the beats. This was my first time at The Ready Room. It's small, but not cramped. Kinda like Firebird. Posted by Obi Orjih. Shades of Black: Tycho & Beacon @ Plush (11/6/13)
http://blog.obezma.com/2013/11/tycho-beacon-plush-11613.html
A weblog by Obi Orjih (a.k.a. Obezma). Saturday, November 09, 2013. Tycho and Beacon @ Plush (11/6/13). Most of the songs they played were off their debut full-length, but they played a couple of songs that I hadn't heard before - likely off their EPs, but perhaps new. My favorite song of theirs, "Split in Two", was missing. They used the same projection system that Tycho used later, but not a couple of the stage lights. They threw in many songs from Dive, including my two faves back-to-back. Tycho and B...

A weblog by Obi Orjih (a.k.a. Obezma). Saturday, March 28, 2015. Tycho w/ Beacon @ The Ready Room (3/25/2015). So, I'm a little late posting this one. And I don't have too many thoughts. The show was somewhat similar to the last time I saw this same pair of bands. Posted by Obi Orjih. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Peace Between People: Remembering Lenny
http://peacebetweenpeople.blogspot.com/2011/07/remembering-lenny.html
All of the wonderful things I can't say to my students. Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Note: I started writing this for his guestbook, but it ended up really long and I'm not sure it's gonna post. So, here it is. Feel free to share any memories you don't feel are appropriate for the guestbook. I've never met anyone like Lenny. He was one of those rare people who brought laughter everywhere he went. I’ll never forget his sense of humor or his contagious smile. I’m glad I stayed. He broke both of his arms.

Popcorn & White Maltesers: If I Ever Wrote A Superhero
http://popcornandwhitemaltesers.blogspot.com/2009/11/if-i-ee.html
Popcorn and White Maltesers. Screen commentary. If you can watch it, I can discuss it. We might as well be living a movie anyway. Wednesday, November 18. If I Ever Wrote A Superhero. Has anybody ever thought about what kind of superhero they would like to be? More than likely, the answer from a poll of this question would tally a resounding yes. I know of friends of mine who dream of becoming Wolverine. Other stranger friends who I am sure would like to be able to transform into Jem. Super- blockbuster&#...

Popcorn & White Maltesers: September 2009

Popcorn and White Maltesers. Screen commentary. If you can watch it, I can discuss it. We might as well be living a movie anyway. Thursday, September 10. MOODS, MUSIC, ROMANCE, BROMANCE. I find it funny that people constantly harp on about how music can always brighten any day. Well, not exactly funny. His words, not mine). The thing about movies is that they have the power to set an agenda in a way that a song, however revolutionary never can. Consider the power of a movie like Milk. From the Die Hard.

Popcorn & White Maltesers: December 2009

Popcorn and White Maltesers. Screen commentary. If you can watch it, I can discuss it. We might as well be living a movie anyway. Monday, December 7. Not long ago, I blogged about my imaginary superhero, Canis Lupus. Since I am yet to start writing about that particular character, and I am unlikely to do so to be honest, I shall have to content myself with the upcoming blockbuster, Wolfman, which promises to be a dark, riveting take on lycanthropy. We wait, we watch, we never withdraw. 500) Days of Summer.

Popcorn & White Maltesers: November 2008
http://popcornandwhitemaltesers.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Popcorn and White Maltesers. Screen commentary. If you can watch it, I can discuss it. We might as well be living a movie anyway. Wednesday, November 12. In portraying reality a bit more graphically than the naturally conservative ethos of parenting permits, the movies became a corrupting influence that was to be frowned upon. I had never heard of the 1996 title "Sleepers". The Secret Life of Bees". Plays the child here with depth and poise, using her wise-beyond-her-years eyes to good effect in juxtapos...

Popcorn & White Maltesers: Audacity of Hope: The Movie

Popcorn and White Maltesers. Screen commentary. If you can watch it, I can discuss it. We might as well be living a movie anyway. Wednesday, November 5. Audacity of Hope: The Movie. The Nigerian movie market, can aspire to the heights of actually shooting a picture about a man who has been making history since he spoke so eloquently at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. Scratch that, since he was elected the first black president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review. Anyway, one can but dream.
