Museum Siam | for a few rounds more

https://afewroundsmore.wordpress.com/2015/01/31/museum-siam

For a few rounds more. Adventures in miniature wargaming. Battle of Koh Chang. Elhiem Thais →. January 31, 2015. Opened in 2008, the Museum Siam. Features state-of-the-art displays primarily aimed at kids (think lots of games, interactive screens, and photo props). While it doesn’t quite achieve its self-professed mission of deconstructing Thai national identity, the museum does offer a number of fantastic dioramas. That flourished between the 15th and 18th centuries. My favourite of the bunch: the June ...

For a few rounds more. Adventures in miniature wargaming. More dipped Japanese →. Ayutthaya Historical Study Centre. June 13, 2011. A small but spectacular museum dedicated to the Siamese capital’s 17th Century heyday. Hopefully these amazing dioramas will inspire a few gamers to put in a little more effort on the accuracy front (no giant Buddhas plopped in the middle of a field please! For a few rounds more. Adventures in miniature wargaming. Newer posts →. March 12, 2013. Two “Type 66” (Browning M1917) teams from the wargaming world’s first ever range of WWII Thais. It was my intention to do up the battalion heavy weapons company in one go, but the late arrival of SHQ’s 37mm Bofors meant that these were done first.*. Don’t like the basing? Well neither do I! 8211; similarly eschew such extravagance). Well there you have it. Next up are a pair of battalion guns, to be followed by a...

One Project Too Far: Old, cold warriors: Roskopf 1/100 model vehicles

http://1project2far.blogspot.com/2013/08/old-cold-warriors-roskopf-1100-model.html

Saturday, 24 August 2013. Old, cold warriors: Roskopf 1/100 model vehicles. Rather less well-known than Roco Minitanks, producer of 1/87 vehicles, the RMM Roskopf range of 1/100 models produced in Germany from the late 50s to the early 90s has quite a bit to offer a wargamer interested in putting together a 15mm Cold War force or one of the numerous ones that use NATO hand-me-downs. As you would expect, the range strongly focused on vehicles used by the Bunderswehr vehicles but other NATO forces and Wars...

One Project Too Far: Chieftains, by Bob Forrest-Webb

http://1project2far.blogspot.com/2013/08/chieftains-by-bob-forrest-webb.html

Friday, 30 August 2013. Chieftains, by Bob Forrest-Webb. By Bob Forrest-Webb first popped up on my radar screen way back in 1986-87 when I bought TTG's Battlezones - Scenarios for the Ultra Modern Period. Amongst its list of scenario sources though I was never able to lay my hands on a copy. This book popped up again a couple of years ago when it was recommended over on TMP but again no joy was had in finding a copy for even tattered ones seemed to command utterly ridiculous prices. The book's ending has...

Saturday, 11 April 2015. Six Block War: finding your way around the Hue Triangle. From 1968 which is reproduced in the Perry-Castañeda Vietnam map collection. And can be freely downloaded (warning: it is a 12MB file). The map identifies major structures all over the city but sadly, the guide to numbered features which was printed on the reverse isn't available. One Project Too Far: Artscow review: custom card decks for Longstreet and Blood & Sand

http://1project2far.blogspot.com/2013/10/artscow-review-custom-card-decks-for.html

Friday, 25 October 2013. Artscow review: custom card decks for Longstreet and Blood and Sand. Card-driven games as not to everyone's taste and while some people loathe them, I love them. I sometimes think this dislike of card-based rules is something of a knee-jerk reaction as there are as many ways to use cards in a game as there are rules out there. For example, cards are at the heart of Sam Mustafa's Longstreet. Toofatlardies or Piquet stables again use cards in a very different manner. In the US ).

An' 'ere's to you, Fuzzy-Wuzzy, with your 'ayrick 'ead of 'air —. You big black boundin' beggar — for you broke a British square! The failed 1884 campaign in the Sudan to relieve Khartoum, along with the operations around Suakin, has tickled my fancy ever since Peter Gilder gave us those very inspirational articles in the first issues of Wargames World. Handbook of the Sudan. By Lord Edward Gleichen (London: War Office. Intelligence Division, 1898). By Count Gleichen (London: HMSO, 1905). Khartoum and th...

One Project Too Far: Not dead yet

http://1project2far.blogspot.com/2014/11/not-dead-yet.html

Thursday, 20 November 2014. Well, well, well. Doesn't time fly? There I was thinking that I should get back to updating this blog when I suddenly realised that the last entry is one year old! To make it short: no, I'm not dead yet. But a new baby, a new house, a new job and a new country have severely cut down on time available for miniatures or anything gaming related over the last 12 months. Not to mention the fact that most of my toys are still in shipping boxes and waiting to be unpacked. I've been p...

One Project Too Far: Castle of steel and Dorchester, part 1: QRF Challenger 2A1 review

http://1project2far.blogspot.com/2013/02/castle-of-steel-and-dorchester-part-1.html

Monday, 18 February 2013. Castle of steel and Dorchester, part 1: QRF Challenger 2A1 review. My latest order from QRF included a Challenger 2A1. Because nothing says "tank support" like a big Chally! QRF has four Challenger variants, with each of the Challenger 1 (Op Granby) and 2 (Op Telic) available in a plain vanilla or up-armoured versions. Three of these variants are unique to QRF since the only other 15mm Challenger, that offered by Skytrex and Old Glory, is a plain vanilla Chally 1. The Challenger...

One Project Too Far: Indochina War ressources

http://1project2far.blogspot.com/p/indochina-war-ressources.html

I have had a long-standing interest in the French Incochina War which raged across Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia from 1947 to 1954 and set the stage for the later US Vietnam War. Interest in this colonial war seems to be enjoying something of a boom lately, no doubt spurred by the release of several excellent figure ranges over the last few years such as Red Star Miniatures. Outstanding 28mm range, Eureka Miniatures. 15mm offerings and Pendraken Miniatures. Organisation militaire Viet Minh. Etat-Major Génér...

A Few Reviews

Thoughts on contemporary art and reviews of exhibits in New York City. Friday, July 18, 2014. Intro to Lowbrow Art for Dummies. One of the most identifiable phenomena in contemporary art today, whether established critics want to believe it or not, is the Lowbrow art movement. Seen on the pages of the heavily circulated Juxtapoz Magazine. And popping up in advertisements, commercial goods, and television shows, Lowbrow is everywhere. Sometimes referred to as Pop Surrealism or Juxtapoz. The academization ...

A Few Roos Loose

A Few Roos Loose. Living On The Dole: A Quick Retrospect. I guess I’ve always wanted to write about this and because I remembered I have a blog which I hardly use for anything at all, I reasoned that I can probably do it here. So what would I consider myself an expert in? I’m about six months off graduating university with my Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering, so maybe that? Comparatively, I guess. Anyway, he once put forth in response to all of those “Teach Yourself XYZ in 21 Days! For a programm...

A Few Rows Up

What a Weekend to Be…a CLEVELAND Fan? Absolutely, and it felt great. The Cavaliers got it all rolling with back-to-back victories over Philadelphia and Washington on Friday and Saturday nights, and the Browns added the exclamation point with a resounding 34-14 thrashing of the New England Patriots on Sunday. For three days, anyway, it was great to be from Cleveland. What’s cause for even more celebration is that the wins have been all about. It’s what being a Cleveland sports fan is truly all about.
