Could not find the also reported Yellow Browed Warbler - instead I heard a Richard's Pipit. Flying over and calling. Tuesday, October 21, 2014. About two hours later we had arrived at the observation-point, a small hill side wi...

http://algarvebirds.blogspot.com/2015/02/alentejo-plains.html

Guided Birding-Tours in South Portugal by Georg Schreier. Thursday, February 12, 2015. Raptor activity has been great on a day-tour to the Baixo Alentejo-area last week - we observed at least three different Spanish Imperial Eagles. One of which was an adult, an immature Golden Eagle. And a pair of adult Bonelli's Eagles. Were among them. Further the first two Short-toed Eagles. Of the year, near the Guadiana river, a pair of Black-winged Kites. As much as 70 Red Kites. And a Peregerine Falcon. Flora int...

http://algarvebirds.blogspot.com/2015/01/whats-been-around-recently.html

Guided Birding-Tours in South Portugal by Georg Schreier. Monday, January 26, 2015. What's been around recently. Can be found in small numbers. In reed beds in all Algarve during winter, but are not known to breed in the region. 23 Jan 2015, near Quarteira, Foto: GS. The rarities reported in my previous blog-posts here, are still around - the Red-brested Flycatcher. And also the North American Wigeon. During a half-day tour around Faro last Thursday morning. All this because...: October 2011

http://allthisbecause.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

We don't remember the days. just the moments. Thursday, 27 October 2011. One Day Like This. And by the time we arrived, at around 7.30 am, birds were gathering in their thousands. Later, closer views of the birds were possible from hides overlooking the lagoons. Definitely a day to remember. Thursday, 13 October 2011. I spent 15th to 25th September back in Portugal , based again at the wonderful Lagoon Cottage, enjoying ten days of sunshine (temperatures often around 30. And this Plain Tiger at Vilamoura.

Monday, 13 February 2012. Winter Ducks and Geese. One of the Yellowhammer flock (taken through glass! Further along the Solway, at Carsethorn, we had fantastic views of a Peregrine patrolling the shore and putting up the large flocks of Lapwing, Dunlin and Oystercatchers. Yet again geese were seen at great distance on the mud banks of the Solway. A flotilla of Scaup. Turnstones, Redshank and Black-headed Gulls. On our way home we crossed the moorland to the east of Stranraer in beautiful sunlight. Ve...

Monday, 23 January 2012. Pagham Harbour and Selsey Bill. Yesterday saw Gen, Paul and ourselves up before the crack of dawn to travel down to West Sussex for a birding adventure with Beds Birds. John, our leader for the day, had prepared for the trip meticulously including going down a day ahead and scouting out the best viewpoints. We really enjoyed the walk despite the lack of ducks. There were 3 Grey Heron, standing in meadows, looking a bit fed up and two very vocal Little Egret flew over. Thi...After...

All this because...: March 2011

http://allthisbecause.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

We don't remember the days. just the moments. Wednesday, 30 March 2011. The Fellowship of the [Birding] Ring. Last weekend’s birding trip -. A long weekend in mid Wales with friends from the Bedford RSPB Local Group - included a couple of what I can only describe as ‘Tolkien’ moments. The Ravens in particular wouldn’t have looked out of place in any supernatural tale – dark forms against a background of knarled, misshapen branches…. The drama was non-stop and there was so much going on you hardly knew wh...

Casa Feria – Algarve Blog.
