Allotment 81

A south-facing plot on a sloping site in south-west Sheffield, with aspirations to become a vineyard. Monday, April 21, 2014. I've only got one section left to dig, and even that is more-or-less clear, at least on the surface. It just needs a bit of rain to soften it up now. I've got 8 bags of lovely well-rotted horse manure waiting at the top of the plot and I've just barrowed the contents of the compost heap halfway up the plot. Fertility a go-go, eh? Allotment 81: December 2013

http://allotment81.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

A south-facing plot on a sloping site in south-west Sheffield, with aspirations to become a vineyard. Friday, December 20, 2013. Grow something to eat every day? I've been reading this:. I rather like the concept. Wouldn't it be great to be able to eat something you'd grown yourself, every day? I'm thinking about giving it a go next year. There is of course the problem of when to start. I've only got Leeks. In the allotment at the moment. I like leeks but not every day! Wouldn't last but the Sloe gin.

A south-facing plot on a sloping site in south-west Sheffield, with aspirations to become a vineyard. Sunday, February 16, 2014. What a glorious day for pruning your Blackberries, missus. No, I'm not channelling Ken Dodd; I really have been pruning my blackberries (well, those at the allotment anyway. What are you like? And something which always makes me feel good. However hard the weather, rhubarb is just irrepressible (try spelling that after a couple of glasses of red wine! Links to this post. I am a...

I Can Grow It: Red apples

http://icangrowit.blogspot.com/2011/09/red-apples.html

I Can Grow It. This blog is a record of my allotment site and how I am getting along. Friday, 2 September 2011. Our little apple tree has done us proud this year. Snow White couldn't resist these beauties could she? The kids have been going out and picking their own apples off the tree. It's nice to watch. Our green apples aren't doing so well, but there's still quite a good crop, they are just quite small so I think they'll go into pies or for crumbles. Why not with the beans for a change? I Can Grow It. This blog is a record of my allotment site and how I am getting along. Sunday, 19 February 2012. Here are some pictures from a visit to Kew. This is the palm house, a beautiful Victorian building that takes your breath away at any time, but especially when the sun is setting behind it. You can walk up an iron staircase and walk along the top of the palm house and look down on their amazing collection of palms and tropical plants. Gardens is a nice place to watch the sun go down. Mel's Lost the Plot! Saturday, 12 May 2012. A dry day at last! I've been so rubbish at keeping this blog this year! I've still been planting stuff. It's been so horrible for weeks though. And then of course there was my wedding! But finally we have a dry day and we've been able to spend some time at the allotment :-). And just to show you the potato patch before it turns into a weed patch like the rest of my allotment! This is supposed to be my onion patch. There are definitely onions in there somewhere!

Allotment 5½ | Vegging out in North Devon

Vegging out in North Devon. Update 14 March 2014. Sad news that we’ve experienced another round of thefts from sheds. Meanwhile, I’ve dug about one-third of the plot and started to warm up the earth in preparation for planting out onion sets. (And, garlic, once the bulbs arrive.). I’ve got potatoes ready to go, but I’m a bit concerned that frost is still a risk so will wait another couple of weeks before plating. Posted by Pete McClymont. Photos from last week, but already an improvement…. The move from ...

Allotment #65

A bit about me. Sunday, 17 May 2015. Such a busy weekend. Thought it was time to net the Honeoye Strawberries, only planted 2 months ago, but already got lots of fruit ripening. Won't be long before we can harvest these lovely sweet Strawberries. Weeded this patch where the 1st and 2nd early potatoes are, can't earth up the Rocket any more as they have grown bigger over the week, but now all the Charlotte are up I could earth those up. News from the pond:. I made new border edges to the path along most o...

Never Mind The Greens

My back is a wee bit better nowadays and the allotment is starting to look like it's not just weeds. Published with Blogger-droid v1.7.1. Peat pellets for the win. May not be the most environmental choice as they can't be recycled and they're made out of peat but so far they have never failed me. Also makes it easier for the kid to join in, sow and replant. She can even drop them to the floor and the net will keep the roots intact! To be found in your area. What's a Turkisk jätte? It grows incredibly fas...

Allotment Adventures with Jean. Growing vegetables on one small allotment. Brazilian Spinach thrives in the Brisbane summer. By Allotment adventures with Jean. I put my allotment to bed for our long hot summer under a blanket of horse manure and a thick layer of mulch. However, a small cutting of Brazilian Spinach (Poor Man’s Spinach) really took off. You can also propagate it by putting a cutting in a jar of water and it will sprout roots. I add this spinach to soups, stir fries and frittata but I also ...
