Curiosity Killed the Bookworm: All Involved
http://www.curiositykilledthebookworm.net/2015/07/all-involved.html
Monday, 27 July 2015. In 1992, when the white cops who beat Rodney King were acquitted of assault and walked away scot free, racial tensions in Los Angeles flared and triggered six days of rioting. In the South Central neighbourhood of Lynwood, another story plays out, telling the untold stories of the people mixed up in the lawlessness. The sheriffs never abandon the town in western movies. It’d be un-American. But it’s happening here. Transports the reader to a city that feels like a war zone. You plun...

Curiosity Killed the Bookworm: Annihilation
http://www.curiositykilledthebookworm.net/2015/07/annihilation.html
Thursday, 30 July 2015. By the time we were ready to cross the border, we knew everything… and we knew nothing. They took away our names in the second month, stripped them from us. The only names applied to things in Area X, and only in terms of their most general label. The nature of Area X makes the biologist the perfect perspective to introduce us to this world where the plant-life is more than meets the eye. I understand the next book in the trilogy is from a different narrator, which pleases me&...

octoberish.: That part of me
http://octoberish.blogspot.com/2015/06/that-part-of-me.html
That part of me. Wednesday, 24 June 2015. Not one to blow my own trumpet or anything, but I'm probably the most positive, enthusiastic person I know. Seriously, almost painfully so. Everything is amazing to me. A walk to the shops or a daytrip to a beauty spot, it doesn't matter, they're basically the same thing in terms of level of excitement. I am a total yes. And Eleanor and Park. What is the relevance of all of this? Nothing really; this is just a collective of words that my brain sent to my fingerti...

Curiosity Killed the Bookworm: For Holly
http://www.curiositykilledthebookworm.net/2015/07/for-holly.html
Sunday, 5 July 2015. I can't help but wonder sometimes if who I am now - if everything I am and say and wear - is in defiance of him. Lola’s narrative is written for Holly, addressing the reader as if we were her. Lola clearly feels guilty for something and is writing to this girl who appears absent from the story. Lola takes her time, setting out the sequence of events that led to her wrong-doing. Posted by Ellie Warren. This is a CAPTCHA free zone. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). How to Be Bad.

Curiosity Killed the Bookworm: Incoming!
http://www.curiositykilledthebookworm.net/2015/07/incoming.html
Sunday, 26 July 2015. I haven't had to read a book for book group in ages, either I'd already read it or I couldn't make the meeting, so I have pre-bought the next three months' worth and will try and read them promptly. There's a couple of thrillers so I will have to psyche myself up to be in the mood but I am looking forward to The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August. Which has been on my wishlist a while. I'm not sure what's going on with UKYA titles in September; we have a Monster. By Tom Rob Smith.

Curiosity Killed the Bookworm: World War Moo
http://www.curiositykilledthebookworm.net/2015/08/world-war-moo.html
Sunday, 2 August 2015. Is the sequel to Apocalypse Cow. And therefore this review may contain spoilers for the previous book. Despite what zombie films would have people believe, he suspected it was damn hard to bite somebody to death. The follow up to Apocalypse Cow. All along he’d been doing what he vilified the international community for doing; dehumanizing the people he would kill, trying to dismiss them as statistics. The cover is a tad misleading if you are expecting a whole load of zombie cows ag...

Curiosity Killed the Bookworm: How to Be Bad
http://www.curiositykilledthebookworm.net/2015/07/how-to-be-bad.html
Tuesday, 7 July 2015. How to Be Bad. We have left our families and their diseases and their worry and expectations. We left our school friends and our work friends and our jobs and our lives. We shook them all off to be here, speeding down the interstate, singing "Suddenly I See" in the dark. Vicks and Jesse have been friends forever despite their differences. When Vicks is feeling insecure about her boyfriend moving away to college, Jesse knows just the answer, a road trip! How to Be Bad. I was really e...

Curiosity Killed the Bookworm: The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet
http://www.curiositykilledthebookworm.net/2015/08/the-long-way-to-small-angry-planet.html
Thursday, 6 August 2015. The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. Humans would’ve died out, too, if the Aeluons hadn’t chanced upon the Fleet. Luck’s what saved them. Luck, and discovering humility. At the heart of The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. In the future, the human race isn’t at the top of the hierarchy. Quite the opposite, they were only just allowed to be let into the GC, what with many other species looking down on them. As Wayfarer travels towards Hedra Ka, the readers learns...Of course t...
