Back to Reality | AnArtGeek

https://anartgeek.wordpress.com/2012/02/10/back-to-reality

All Images Amy Theiss Giese. So, I’m back in Boston. It’s taken me about a week to get my legs under me again – between sleeping normal hours, starting back up on both jobs and just figuring out my day, I’m finally back on EST. I’ll miss you Praha time! Anywho, just stopping by to say hi and regroup this side of the pond. And on that note, I’ll leave you with a foolish photo of my furball who is back to being my full-time buddy. Responses to “Back to Reality”. Feed for this Entry. Enter your comment here.

Of Mozart and Light | AnArtGeek

https://anartgeek.wordpress.com/2012/01/30/of-mozart-and-light

All Images Amy Theiss Giese. Of Mozart and Light. Ok New work. Let’s talk. This is the branched off version of my Edge of Vision series that I started sometime last year (I think! Still making these, and I’m awful at titles, even when I’ve finished a project, so for right now, I’m referring to the new work as Mozartova Light, because it is literally about this light in my flat on Mozartova (a street that once had the honor of having Mozart reside there! Off to play with videos and sound! You are commenti...

Sojournering: February 2014

http://sojournering.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

February 28, 2014. Jumping off the cliff! In the last week, I've had two interviews. Both for full-time. Both not quite the 'right' job, but certainly interesting and doable. Both went well overall, though I've yet to hear about next steps. As I drove home from one of them, I realized that I will have a life regret if I don't freelance and get to know the design scene in Dallas. I'm good, but not compelled enough to fill blank canvas without a deadline. Foster care? Three weeks ago, I fasted and prayed a...

Sojournering: Was it hard to marry cross-culturally?

http://sojournering.blogspot.com/2007/10/was-it-hard-to-marry-cross-culturally.html

October 17, 2007. Was it hard to marry cross-culturally? Yes Though my Dad has always pointed out that every marriage is cross-cultural. It wasn't as hard for me as for my husband. My parents didn't care about race. His parents wanted their son to marry a Korean. Every time he went home to visit they set him up on a blind date, "You'll like her, she's studying medicine at Yale." They hadn't met me at that point so I didn't take it personally. I think she would have grabbed him first! It sounds fake to me!

Sojournering: Explaining II

http://sojournering.blogspot.com/2005/10/explaining-ii.html

October 11, 2005. Looking at me, no one can see the scrawny, tangle-haired kid with 1/4 inch callouses. The girl who loved to read on the stoop and wave at passing cars. Who walked four blocks to church and answered "Amy" to men who asked, "Yo, slim, what's your name? It's at the center, but no longer the total identity. Over the Rhine. So I checked out your links. iRhine describes OTR as Safe - Clean - Profitable. I think that is taking PR a little bit too far. Dad has said that after the riots everyone...

Sojournering: Getting to know you

http://sojournering.blogspot.com/2007/10/getting-to-know-you.html

October 9, 2007. Getting to know you. I love how keeping a blog allows conversations with distant friends to skip the catching up stage and just get to the heart of things. My cousin closest to my age (anyone want to suggest a pseudonym? A movie for designers and type geeks. I LOVED it, but if you don't know who Matthew Carter is and don't care who designed Meta, it might not be for you. Then we checked out the "Hardly Strictly Bluegrass" Fest. Do you have siblings? How did you meet your husband? You can...

Sojournering: Roller Coaster!

http://sojournering.blogspot.com/2014/04/roller-coaster.html

April 9, 2014. Well, the job saga is now both over and just beginning. I wrote back and apologized that I'd assumed 'office hours' meant 9AM-5:30 or 6PM. In a good faith effort (to make them the bad guys not me! I said it seemed tragic if this was going to fall apart over 15-30 minutes. Well, it fell apart! Basically, the entire experience reinforced every red flag we'd felt on both sides and in the end, it was a gracious, kind parting of ways. My final day at my current job is today and I am so happy.

Sojournering: Autocratic vs Democratic Leadership

http://sojournering.blogspot.com/2014/02/autocratic-vs-democratic-leadership.html

February 10, 2014. Autocratic vs Democratic Leadership. During our date night Saturday, Jrex helped me clarify my thinking in terms of how I see myself as a leader and what my vision is for running a creative department. We were discussing my recent job interview with Christian Agency. It went fine, but he asked me a few questions that were getting at what my vision is for running a department. I felt like I didn't have one! I'm also thinking that I need to accept the gift I'm being given to regroup, ret...
