J White's Gallery: December 2013
http://jwhitegallery.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 15, 2013. Santissima Trinidad: Tumbling Dice 1:2400. Here's a small post about a small subject - Tumbling Dice's 1:2400 model of the Santissima Trinidad, a massive warship rendered in exceedingly tiny form. Sunday, December 8, 2013. This unit was a long time in the making as my painting time has been very limited in recent months, but I finally finished them and sent them off to their owner. Sunday, December 1, 2013. 22 Gun Xebec - GHQ 1:1200. There were several different types of rigs a...

Tuesday, May 6, 2014. 20 Gun Ketch - Langton 1:1200. This is a 1:1200 model from Langton miniatures, with brass sails and shrouds. I replaced the bowsprit with one of my own construction made of brass rods, and rigged it with nylon paintbrush bristles. For size comparison, here the ketch can be seen between a six gunner schooner in front and a 32 gun xebec frigate in the back, both also from Langton Miniatures. Friday, June 21, 2013. 44 Gun East Indiaman - GHQ 1:1200. I painted this model to look less like a national navy ship than many of these vessels actually did - in particular British EIC warships were commonly painted just like Royal Navy vessels. I wanted something that could fill a number of roles, as needed. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). 44 Gun East Indiaman - GHQ 1:1200. Brooklyn, NY, United States. View my complete profile. J White's Gallery: 6 Gun Schooner with Pivot Gun - Langton 1:1200
http://jwhitegallery.blogspot.com/2014/04/6-gun-schooner-with-pivot-gun-langton.html
Monday, April 21, 2014. 6 Gun Schooner with Pivot Gun - Langton 1:1200. This is a very small model of a vessel type that was frequently employed on the Great Lakes during the war of 1812 - the schooner. This one carries six little carronades and a larger gun in the middle on a pivot. She's not the most formidable thing afloat, but she'll sweep up some gunboats quick enough. A size comparison shot: behind the Langton schooner is GHQ's 8 gun schooner, and behind that is el Gamo, a 32 gun frigate. Victrix&#...

J White's Gallery: 18 Gun Brig - GHQ 1:1200

Friday, June 12, 2015. 18 Gun Brig - GHQ 1:1200. Wait, where was I? I guess it's been a while since I added anything to the site. But I'm happy to have photos to share of the latest project I've completed. This is GHQ's 1:1200 model of an 18 gun brig, a very common type of vessel used in a variety of roles by all the European navies of the time. It was in just such a ship that the famous British naval hero Thomas Cochrane encountered and defeated the Spanish Xebec frigate El Gamo in 1801. Some reinforcem...

Thursday, July 18, 2013. 28mm Roman Tribune - Relic Miniatures. Here are a few views of a figure I just finished painting, a Roman tribune from Relic Miniatures, whose line of 2nd Punic War era Romans is starting to grow. The figure wears a bronze breastplate and leather shoulder piece, with layers of linen armor strips below the waist and at the shoulders. He carries a hoplon shield (with a boar device I cut out of a transfer from LBM) and distinctive spear. Friday, July 12, 2013. Sunday, July 7, 2013.

Wednesday, January 1, 2014. 1:1200 "Galley Gunboat" and "Large Gunboat" - Langton Miniatures. One of the fun aspects of gunboat models is all of the interesting rigs they display - they get fairly exotic. It's a fun break from the standard three-masted square-sailed ships of the line. The bases are trimmed-down sections of Langton resin sea bases, with black acrylic underneath, and the rigging is made of nylon bristles from a paintbrush. I replaced the white metal masts with brass rods, for strength.

J White's Gallery: November 2013
http://jwhitegallery.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 24, 2013. 8 Gun Schooner - GHQ 1:1200. Another type of vessel seen in abundance on the waters of the Great Lakes during the War of 1812, in the forces of both sides, is the schooner. These small, fore-and-aft rigged craft were fast and maneuverable, and relatively inexpensive, as far as warships go. This model carries an armament of 8 guns - not a terribly formidable broadside, but it'll do in a pinch. Sunday, November 17, 2013. 1-Gun Gunboats: Langton Miniatures 1:1200. They were compar...
