Cardboard Hopes: December 2009
http://cardboardhopes.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Ultra Prospct: Willie Banks. Set: 1991 Fleer Ultra. Fleer Ultra was one of the earlier "premium" card sets, with a silver boarder and a full color back. There were no real outstanding cards in the set, the highlights being several future hall of famers- about the same as every other '91 set. Willie Banks ended up with a 9 year, fairly middling career- a journeyman. He complied a 33-39 record and a 4.75 era with 7 teams, ending his career with the Red Sox in 2002. A tribute t...

Cardboard Hopes: Star Rookie: Phil Plantier

Monday, January 18, 2010. Star Rookie: Phil Plantier. Set: 1991 Upper Deck. When I was a kid, I didn't notice that the back of Phil Plantier's '91 UD card compared him in looks to Mel Gibson. I thought he was more Travolta-esque. I do love the '91 UD though. Phil Plantier burst onto the scene in a big way in 1991, hitting 11 home runs in 53 games. But for a season or so, he was another great rising Red Sox star, and his card a little rectangle of cardboard hope. Posted by Chris Crook. Cards in the Attic.

Cardboard Hopes: Rated Rookie: Dave Fleming
http://cardboardhopes.blogspot.com/2010/01/rated-rookie-dave-fleming.html
Saturday, January 9, 2010. Rated Rookie: Dave Fleming. Dave Fleming was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 1990, and pitched in the majors in 1991. He pitched 6 seasons in the majors, 5 with the Ms and a final season, 1995, with the Royals. He went 17-10 in 1992, but arm troubles shortened his career, and according to Wikipedia, he now teaches elementary school in Connecticut. How cool would that be, to pull a rookie card of your old fifth grade teacher? Posted by Chris Crook. Future Star: Mike Harkey.
