A peek into the past… | apebbleinthesea

https://apebbleinthesea.wordpress.com/2011/11/15/a-peek-into-the-past…

Just another WordPress.com site. A peek into the past. November 15, 2011. But more than the technical stuff, there are a few more interesting things that I would like to talk about based on my experience in this past 4 months. Good backend doesn’t mean good UI. Good UI doesn’t mean it looks beautiful. UI looking beautiful doesn’t mean that it is easy to use. And to complete this vicious circle, being easy to use doesn’t mean that everything works the way it should. NUS to me, is not about learning how to...

Half way mark.. | apebbleinthesea

https://apebbleinthesea.wordpress.com/2011/09/23/half-way-mark

Just another WordPress.com site. September 23, 2011. The half way mark for 3216 is just around the corner, and I think I’ve come a long way. From knowing nothing about html or php or sql at the start, then to being in-charge of the server side in my first project and to being singly in-charge of the rest api and all the backend logic in the html5 project, I think I’ve learnt a lot. All the best guys! From → Uncategorized. Glad to hear that.🙂. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

Night Stand.. The Alarm clock with a difference | apebbleinthesea

https://apebbleinthesea.wordpress.com/2011/08/30/night-stand-the-alarm-clock-with-a-difference

Just another WordPress.com site. Night Stand. The Alarm clock with a difference. August 30, 2011. Night stand is basically an alarm clock app for the IOS platform. After having listened to the team’s presentation, I was doubtful of how much really an alarm clock could do, and tried out the app on my Ipad. But as I began to use the app, I could relate more to the presenter’s point of view. There are three main points I’d like to reiterate from their presentation. 3 When I was searching through the app sto...

Facebook@NUS: Finishing Strong

http://cs3216.blogspot.com/2011/08/finishing-strong.html

I am the prof for CS3216. I made my students blog for the class. I decided that it is important to walk the talk. :-). Tuesday, August 16, 2011. Blogging is stressful. I do it because I always believed in walking the talk. It didn't take me too long to realize that students (children) don't do what we say, but do what we do. For teachers to have the moral authority to preach, they unfortunately will have to practise what they preach. The problem with life is that most things that are worth doing, are, we...

I am the prof for CS3216. I made my students blog for the class. I decided that it is important to walk the talk. :-). Thursday, November 26, 2009. Paradox of the Poor (Money No Enough) Programmers. But there's apparently also a shortage of good programmers. For a CS prof who is concerned about the state of the local IT industry, this is clearly something that I am deeply troubled about. So how is this issue of information asymmetry and lemons related to programmers? Over the past couple of years that I ...

I am the prof for CS3216. I made my students blog for the class. I decided that it is important to walk the talk. :-). Monday, September 5, 2011. I would like to congratulate my students on surviving the first 25% of the course with the completion of the Facebook application assignment and also the FB/iPad Application Seminar. I am the prof for CS3216. I made my students blog for the class. I decided that it is important to walk the talk. :-). Monday, August 29, 2011. Since we are having the FB/iPad application seminar this evening, it seems fitting that I take some time to explain what we are trying to do with this exercise. This is the 4th year that we're teaching CS3216 and also the 4th time that we're doing this seminar. I am the prof for CS3216. I made my students blog for the class. I decided that it is important to walk the talk. :-). Tuesday, November 8, 2011. The Last Lecture That Could Have Been Better. CS3216 was inspired by the The Last Lecture. Just delivered what is likely my last lecture for CS3216. It is hard to describe the feeling. Strangely liberating is probably the best I can do. School is hardly the most efficient mechanism for learning and lecture is hardly the most effective way to have students learn.

I am the prof for CS3216. I made my students blog for the class. I decided that it is important to walk the talk. :-). Tuesday, March 23, 2010. I'm a prof. Mine is a funny business. In theory, profs are supposed to teach. What does that really mean? Some people think that teaching is about imparting knowledge. Others talk about teaching critical thinking. Personally, I look at my job a little differently. I think it's about helping people (students). I guess I am fortunate to have met quite a few people ...
