The Substitute Diaries: I Wish it Was Christmas
http://pintastio.blogspot.com/2012/10/i-wish-it-was-christmas.html
The Adventures and Mis-adventures of a Substitute Teacher. Wednesday, October 3, 2012. I Wish it Was Christmas. Well, I don't exactly, not yet at least. Time goes by fast enough I don't really want to lose 2 months of my life. But one of my students today apparently does, as "I wish it was Christmas" was her comment to a friend when returning to the room from PE. Just being realistic here! Today though, today I can do. Other than that the student had Writer's Workshop time where I basically walk around a...

The Adventures and Mis-adventures of a Substitute Teacher. Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Days are Escaping Me! I am way behind! The last couple weeks have been madness! I promise to go back and write interesting factoids for you on the days I've skipped this weekend! For now, here's a picture of today's project! Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Today was not the best day. It seems that behaviors are going downhill for reasons I'm not sure of. Tomorrow we are trying some new things. Can you find mine? We also s...

The Substitute Diaries: May 2012
http://pintastio.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
The Adventures and Mis-adventures of a Substitute Teacher. Friday, May 18, 2012. Alright, lets get back in the habit of writing these things! Some even run over to me to give me hugs. About half of the students say hi to me on their way by - I feel like a celebrity. There's something amazing about being loved by little kids. I think Charles Dickens sums it up: "I love little children, and it is not a slight thing when they, who are fresh from God, love us.". Thursday, May 17, 2012. It has been SO long!

The Substitute Diaries: September 2011
http://pintastio.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
The Adventures and Mis-adventures of a Substitute Teacher. Friday, September 30, 2011. I Wanted the Gold Button. It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday! So I made it through my first full week of teaching these kiddos, AND planning everything myself. Well, that's not to say that the first grade team hasn't giving me tons of stuff, but still - I decided what to do. I was sure to point this out to them too. When you said to find all the shiny buttons, they got the gold ones and I didn't get any!

The Substitute Diaries: August 2011
http://pintastio.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
The Adventures and Mis-adventures of a Substitute Teacher. Tuesday, August 2, 2011. I can't believe it's August already! But, with August comes substitute inservice and also the return to my blog! At the inservice this year we learned that all the teachers who got laid off and who choose to work as substitutes will get preferential treatment. What this means for me is that I'll depend on requests more than ever! Anyway, back to the inservice - it was better this year! 10 points* for the first person to r...

The Substitute Diaries: Stiches
http://pintastio.blogspot.com/2012/10/stiches.html
The Adventures and Mis-adventures of a Substitute Teacher. Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Alright, I stink at updating this. I have no motivation because I don't think anybody really reads it. I feel a little bad that I haven't written down interesting things from the last year or so of subbing for myself though. Regardless, today I had to write something because. it happened again! A student noticed something about my lip! What is it about my lip in this town? I do not know. June 3, 2013 at 12:14 PM. I have...

The Substitute Diaries: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
http://pintastio.blogspot.com/2012/10/with-great-power-comes-great.html
The Adventures and Mis-adventures of a Substitute Teacher. Thursday, October 4, 2012. With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility. Today I realized that I have a super power. I am already crafting plans for my superhero costume. Because you see, today I learned I have the power of listening to two stories at once. (Come on, be impressed! This afternoon I was in a second grade class full of kiddos I knew from last year, and let me tell you, 7-year-olds can get excited! June 3, 2013 at 12:12 PM. A Long Lon...

The Substitute Diaries: Not "Just" a Sub
http://pintastio.blogspot.com/2013/08/not-just-sub.html
The Adventures and Mis-adventures of a Substitute Teacher. Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Not "Just" a Sub. Here we are, at the start of another school year, and I'm facing the same question I do every year: "So, have you found a job yet, or are you still subbing? It's a reasonable question, I suppose, but after hearing it more times than I can count, it feels a lot different. It feels more like, "Are you successful yet? Because we know subbing isn't a real job. And I was pretty convinced I would get one...
