The Kindness of Strangers: Part Two. Here’s a sample checklist for the curious… →. May 5, 2012 · 4:28 pm. Spontaneity really is overrated. Way back in my twenties I took a creativity course wherewe ‘practiced’ being spontaneous. And man, did I need practice. I’ve always loved having a plan and a recent conference helped me realize how much Ryan needs one too – and not just at school. Then I attended the Autism Awareness Centre’s. They LOVE them (especially my neurotypical son! We have morning routine and...

Here’s a sample checklist for the curious…. Some simple tips for Back to School →. September 3, 2012 · 8:01 am. What I learned on my summer vacation. Camping is a summer ritual for our family. Every year we tow our little tent trailer to various provincial and national parks. And every year camping shows us how much our boys have grown. How much they’ve learned and changed. Photo by D. Wilson. Parks Canada. We had a glorious time camping in Kejimkujik National Park. There’s a big difference between ridin...

Asperger's Illustrated: August 2013

http://aspergersillustrated.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Asperger's Resources For Adults. Saturday, August 10, 2013. The Most Difficult Week I've Had In Years. This has been a very trying week for me. On Tuesday morning, I woke up to find out that my grandfather had a stroke whilst visiting my aunt up in Rochester. We're five hours away from him right now, and the stroke was very severe and we're not sure how much he'll be able to recover, if at all. This could be the beginning of the end, so I've been bracing for losing him for the past several days. I've cha...

Asperger's Resources For Adults. Saturday, November 30, 2013. Post-Thanksgiving Dispatch From The Front. I survived yet another Thanksgiving. I really have no idea how I make it every year, but I do. I do have some potentially exciting news coming up if it works out, at least, but I can't spoil things just yet because we don't know how official it is. What I can say is that it involves my art and I might just be getting a break here, so fingers crossed! Saturday, November 16, 2013. Luckily, that hold is ...

http://aspergersillustrated.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Asperger's Resources For Adults. Tuesday, July 23, 2013. I've been seeing my therapist for years now - I first met him in the summer of 2009, and then we resumed sessions in the summer of 2011 and I've been going ever since. He's been a wonderfully positive influence on my life, and I've definitely taken what I've learned and worked on in his office to heart. It's had a new impact on my life, though, one I didn't think was going to come about - I've started doing my best to bring those teachings to others.

Asperger's Illustrated: April 2014

http://aspergersillustrated.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Asperger's Resources For Adults. Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Today is Autism Positivity Day, but it's a bit difficult to be positive when it's pouring outside. Actually, it's not difficult to be positive, but it's really hard not to be lazy. (I also have a sensory issue with rain. Strangely enough, I can take and very much enjoy hot showers, but rain bothers me for some reason. Maybe it's the cold.). Anyhow, it's back to working on that subject guide/resource list for grad school, so I'd best get to that!

I've been extremely busy as of late between catching up on my massive art backlog and starting up school again, but I'm writing here today because I'm nervous. http://aspergersillustrated.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Asperger's Resources For Adults. Friday, May 16, 2014. Neurotypicals won't always understand certain elements of Asperger's, and that's okay. It's starting to dawn on me that people in my life who aren't on the spectrum are never really going to fully understand what it's like to be on the spectrum. They can try, certainly, but they won't fully get it, and that makes it a bit more difficult for me to explain things I do to them. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Asperger's Resources For Adults. Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Anxiety is a cruel mistress. I haven't written here in a rather long time due to graduate school, and I sincerely apologize for that. I was just so busy finishing up my final semester and balancing that with an archival internship and my part-time job that I haven't had much time for anything else! Is something wrong with how I interview when I do get those rare opportunities? Why don't employers want me? Does ANYONE want me? Gavin had a bad reac...

June 25, 2015 · 4:46 pm. To the Learning Centre, with love. For the past seven years we’ve sent our eldest son off to school every day and hoped for the best. Some mornings, we’ve held our breath and wondered if/when the call from the principal would come. Other times we’ve laughed with tears in our eyes at the things he’s accomplished easily – things that we thought would be hard, or even impossible. He is ready for middle school, but am I? How could we tackle the latest challenge? And always, at some p...
