Monday, February 19, 2018. FPB vs Trans Nova. The FPB 300 right channel now seems to overheat at low playback levels regardless of input or speaker connected. One time in January it reached 207F before I shut it down. That time it had reached 197F during playback, I shut the music off, and the temp kept rising anyway for ten minutes. Power consumption was about 900W. This looks like at least one malfunction! But it could have been noise or DC offset at the input. I will be filing a problem report soon.

In any real room, you will be getting some reflection, and reflection isn't fidelity, but some reflectiveness may make for a more enjoyable experience anyway. Most important is the quality of the reflected sound- how much does it change the frequency content of the original sound? And there you have tradeoffs such as trading off the frequency balance of reflection for the total amount of reflection.

Wednesday, May 13, 2015. I've already got one ( 50kHz) HP spectrum analyzer. But now I think what I'd like would be an 8566B, which has range from 100Hz to 22GHz, and minimum 3Hz bandwidth. BTW, HP instruments became Agilent when HP sold off it's original instrumentation business to become a PC maker.
