In a perfect world…. In a perfect world . . . Letter to My Dad. June 18, 2016. Yes, I’m thinking about you tonight because tomorrow is Father’s Day. I do this every year but this year it’s somehow different. Not so insignificant, according to Mom. Your funny stories, the aroma of your homemade western omelets and the always present bowls of Quaker Oatmeal that you made on the stove on Saturday mornings, the feeling of your hand in mine. I miss you dearly and pray that I’ve made you proud. And I thank you.

In a perfect world…. Amy and the City of Angels. That’s all an angel is.an idea of God. There are three days that will forever stand out in my mind:. 11221963 (J.F.K. Assassinated), 1.28.1986 (Space Shuttle Challenger) and 9.11.2001 (WTC). I remember driving to work on the morning of 9/11 and thinking how beautiful a day it was; magnificent sunshine with an indigo blue sky dotted with the occasional white puff of cloud. Nothing could go wrong today, I thought. The feeling was uncomfortable and eerie.

When I first arrived at the nursing home, Dad was busily wheeling around in his wheelchair, using his feet to move forward. Navigating the journey through dementia. Loneliness Takes Its Toll. Haven in the Woods. When the architect told them they couldn’t build the vaulted ceiling the way they wanted, my dad asked why not. The architect told them because he’d never done it before. My dad would hear none of that and said, Just because you haven’t done it, doesn’t mean it can’t be done. When Mom passed away fourteen years ago, their house still sat alone overlooking the lake, isolated and surrounded by acres and acres of forest.
