世界魚米之鄉 Homeland of rice and fish. 地理上, 孟國位處恆河下游低地, 雖有水患之弊, 卻絕是肥沃農地, 加上氣候炎熱, 最宜水稻種植, 一年可以有三造收成. 即使在大城市如首都達卡(Dhaka), 城街以外, 每每是阡陌水田, 在小城市甚或鄉郊, 更是水田處處, 不時交織著大小羊群散走, 很原野feel! 根據菲律賓 International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). 世界稻米產量統計數字, 2004年全世界稻米最高產量國依次為中國(186,730,000t), 印度(124,400,000t), 印尼(53,100,000t), 孟加拉(37,910,000t), 越南(35,500,000t). 孟加拉國土面積僅147,570平方公里（世界第91名）, 總人口卻達141,340,476 (2004年中估計數), 是世界第8名; 人口密度達世界第7名. 相對看來, 孟國稻田面積和稻米產量密度全球來說非冠即亞. 我吃過中國米, 泰國米, 日本米, 甚至日常會吃印度米, 但味道竟不及孟加拉米!
