Everybody Has To Be Somewhere: Just west of Fernie, BC July 26, 2015
http://everybodyhastobesomewhere.blogspot.com/2015/08/just-west-of-fernie-bc-july-26-2015.html
Saturday, 8 August 2015. Just west of Fernie, BC July 26, 2015. Morrissey Mines is an abandoned coal operation just west of Fernie, BC. This is one of many old coal ventures that litter the Elk Valley. Named “Morrissey” for James Morrissey, a local pioneer. In existence from about 1902 to 1904. Morrissey Mines is where CNP Coal built their coke ovens. The townsite was not that far away. The ovens are just on the right, heavily obscured. No idea where this leads. There must be over one hundred of these.

The Crowsnest Pass in Alberta is littered with remnants of the coal mining era. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What do you do with some spare time? Start a blog . . . View my complete profile. Everybody Has To Be Somewhere: August 2015
http://everybodyhastobesomewhere.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Monday, 31 August 2015. Catholic Church in Guy, AB August 2, 2015. In parts of Alberta it is common to seen Catholic churches, schools, and what were once hospitals. Their churches always seem to stand out. Sunday, 30 August 2015. High Level Bridge, Edmonton, AB August 17, 2015. Which definitely holds true for Edmonton, there are two seasons, winter and construction. Being on a motorcycle held no advantage, no matter where I turned I ran into road construction. By the way, if you ever want to exp...Found...

Everybody Has To Be Somewhere: Taylor Siding August 13, 2015
http://everybodyhastobesomewhere.blogspot.com/2015/08/taylor-siding-august-13-2015.html
Friday, 14 August 2015. Taylor Siding August 13, 2015. This is what is left of the rail line. I walked across this wooden bridge. I will not do that again in the future, the wood is getting rotten. I also got eaten alive by bugs. A further advantage of exploring in winter. I found a couple of glass insulators in the brush. I posed one for a photo and left it at the scene. Cacti in Alberta. Not a big one. The first I have seen in this part of the province. 14 August 2015 at 07:09. Good place to explore!

Everybody Has To Be Somewhere: Spur of the moment adventures
http://everybodyhastobesomewhere.blogspot.com/2015/08/spur-of-moment-adventures.html
Thursday, 6 August 2015. Spur of the moment adventures. The first Monday in August is a long weekend in Alberta. Friday July 31 after work I rode my motorcycle from Airdrie to Drayton Valley to visit my mother which is about three hours travel time. Saturday morning in Drayton Valley, Alberta on August 1 I found myself thinking "I wonder if I can pull this off? From there I crossed the river over to Grimshaw and straight north to High Level. I spent Monday riding back to Airdrie from Genesee. Stiff maybe...

Everybody Has To Be Somewhere: Mayerthorpe, Alberta May 16, 2015
http://everybodyhastobesomewhere.blogspot.com/2015/08/mayerthorpe-alberta-may-16-2015.html
Thursday, 13 August 2015. Mayerthorpe, Alberta May 16, 2015. I wrote, scheduled, and pulled this post many times. I wanted to say more about it, I just could not find a way to make it work to my satisfaction. So I stripped everything down. The worst one-day loss of life for the RCMP and the worst multiple-officer killing in modern Canadian history. A memorial and park commemorating them stands at Mayerthorpe, Alberta across from the police station. Their portraits hang inside the building. West of the 5th.

Everybody Has To Be Somewhere: More school markers
http://everybodyhastobesomewhere.blogspot.com/2015/08/more-school-markers.html
Saturday, 15 August 2015. Ran across these on the weekend of August 1st and 2nd of this year north of Drayton Valley, Alberta. Usually markers of this type have bronze looking lettering on the steel plate. There is no lettering on these and no evidence of if there ever was any lettering. I wonder if there was a lack of funds on the part of the historical society or if there was a change in how these were done. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What do you do with some spare time?
