Bardsey's Wildlife
http://bbfo.blogspot.com/2015/05/another-breezy-day-saw-most-noteworthy.html
The latest news from Bardsey Bird and Field Observatory. West Midland Bird Club Week 2016. Voluntary Assistant placements for 2016. Staying at Bardsey Lodge. Bardsey NGB week 2016. Monday, 18 May 2015. Another breezy day saw most noteworthy avian sightings focussed on the coastal areas of the island, with relatively few migrant passerines further inland. Indeed, the day's figures for passerines stood at one Skylark. In terms of seabirds, some reasonable numbers of waders included four Sanderlings. Opinio...

The latest news from Bardsey Bird and Field Observatory. West Midland Bird Club Week 2016. Voluntary Assistant placements for 2016. Staying at Bardsey Lodge. Bardsey NGB week 2016. Wednesday, 13 May 2015. A glorious sunny day with hardly a breath of wind saw the year's largest movements of hirundines taking place, and there were some reasonable migrant numbers in the vegetated areas too. The highlight of the day came in the form of a very smart Wood Warbler. Singles of Flava Wagtail. And 172 House Martins.

The latest news from Bardsey Bird and Field Observatory. West Midland Bird Club Week 2016. Voluntary Assistant placements for 2016. Staying at Bardsey Lodge. Bardsey NGB week 2016. Sunday, 10 May 2015. The strong southerly winds continued throughout the day, and meant that any passerine migrants on the island were gathered in areas that were sheltered from the blustery conditions. There was in fact a good scattering of species around the island, the highlight of which was a smart Turtle Dove. News update...

Garden | Birding over my head

Birding over my head. Look up, see more stuff. Birding Over My Head pays a lot of attention to my garden, since that’s where I do a substantial amount of my birding. So here’s some more information about the garden and its surroundings. No need for the zoom. Birding is occasionally done, even deliberately, from the front garden; it has a lawn and a mature rowan tree, which attracts thrushes, Starlings, and even Waxwings. The brook after heavy rain. The marsh soon after dawn. Some distance to the W there ...

Birding over my head. Look up, see more stuff. Best of the rest of the recycled highlights. January 11, 2013. I was browsing recent Berksbirds photos. Last night and noticed this striking fellow. In a picture taken by Linda Garner-Langham at the west end of Sandford Lake. Fraser Cottington has confirmed that the bird is still present today, and is looking good for Dinton CP’s first. Joe Wynn Photography: February 2013
http://manchesterbirder.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Monday, 4 February 2013. Down and Out in Manchester and Rhyl. That low, early morning winter sun really helps here. But its not all Buntings on the seeded patch, this Meadow Pipit has grown bold with the extensive disturbance and as a result has become quite tame. Even down to eye-level. And that bit of luck required to get something more special. But soon the bunts were back and my attention drawn away from this unobtrusive LBJ. A stunning male struts his stuff. This one appears to be trying to hide!
Joe Wynn Photography: Scilly Birding

Tuesday, 30 September 2014. Further off, but with better light. And a few Snipe. On the tip off of a local, I decided to catch Joe Pender's Sapphire Pelagic out that evening, even though it'd be very late in the season for anything and there was rain forecast. Good call as it turned out. I stopped on Hugh Town beach for some Turnstones. Looking at the people on the quayside above. And this surprisingly pale Gannet. As dark drew near we saw more stormies and shearwaters, and Joe caught 3 blue sharks. ...

Friday, 19 July 2013. My blog, my blog, why have you forsaken me? Of late i've been something of a vagrant, i've wandered over Manchestor and the UK generally in search of, well, nothing really. But spent a belting three days up in Scotland, the details of which I will regail the discerning reader with in due time, but for now some pure, unadulterated action from my most favourite inshore small island in Sutherland: Handa! So imagine a really sunnny coupl'a days (hard isn't it? But what Handa is renowned...

Tuesday, 16 April 2013. The Mountains Afar', Mull 2013- Part I. Lord Byron once wrote of Scotland that. England thy beauties are tame and domestic. To one who has roved on the mountains afar'. But in the evenings I noticed some behaviour i'd never seen before in Divers, rafting. This is when many birds gather together in a huddle on the sea. But Divers are nearly always singletons, or at best are found in small groups. Therefore the sight of 27 one evening was something of a surprise. But then you're off...

Graham's Bird Ringing Blog: September 2012
http://grahamuneybirdringing.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Bird ringing from Mid Wales and beyond. Sunday, 23 September 2012. Sorry for the lack of new posts here lately. The news is, we're leaving Canna in mid October. Very frustrated with the management of the island, and upset to be leaving behind such a wonderful place, and some truly lovely people. Not suited to island life? Not at all. We're off to Shetland! No jobs to go to as of yet, but we'll find something soon, and in the meantime we're looking into various small business ideas. All for now,.

Thursday, 26 September 2013. Transportation (Or 'Nice Pecs'). One of the things I find odd (and I suspect everyone else finds acutely annoying) about photography is the way I can completely ignore the passage of time. Lunchtime? Time to catch the train home? No idea. It all passes me by. Which is fantastic in a way, I can think of very few things that can so totally absorb you as photography. Picking towards me indirectly, you could acutally see its footprints in the soft mud. Sunday, 1 September 2013.

Today saw a trickle of new arrivals on to the island as the start of spring migration begins. A pair of Chiffchaffs. Were present in one of the gardens at Nant, their "huit" calls a nice sign of things to come over the next weeks as their numbers increase. Thrushes continued in a similar vain, two Mistle.
