An Uncivil Union: the Battle of Burnsville. Premiered at Parkway Playhouse in June 2011. In April of 1864, forty Appalachian mountain women raided the Confederate storehouses in Burnsville, North Carolina, and made off with sixty bushels of wheat. The next day, approximately 75 men stormed the same place and made off with 100 new guns and 500 lbs. of bacon. While the names of the women have been lost, their actions are inspiring. Interesting Theory: March 2013
http://brittkaufmann.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 29, 2013. I know. Not quite the right sentiments. It's kinda along the lines of the inward chuckle I do when the Southern Baptists say, "Oh, we don't celebrate Lent in our church." (Uh, we don't either. ) But honestly, this has been a particularly lenty Lent, and I'm over it. Guess I'm a part of the crowd yelling "Crucify him! And let's get to the good stuff. Interesting Theory: Chickens in Winter
http://brittkaufmann.blogspot.com/2015/02/chickens-in-winter.html
Thursday, February 19, 2015. The crazy hen and the persistently peeping chick get the cush digs of a cardboard box in the insulated garage with a warming light on them. They get checked on multiple times a day and are given fresh spinach scraps and leftover spaghetti as dinner clean-up merits. Perhaps it is a lesson in following your instincts, even when, logically, the timing doesn't seem right- even when tragedy is all around. There is still new life. There is still a warming light. Interesting Theory: January 2015
http://brittkaufmann.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 26, 2015. It's time to start blogging again. I never stopped having a million ideas to write about. but somehow, I persist in not writing them down. Stuck in my head. I am perpetually stuck in my head. Yes, I'm in the middle of a new play, but I have been for so long now that it hardly seems like an excuse worth making. At first, I theorized I was saving myself for the new play. Put your energies there,. But I am here- showing up- starting to write something again. Links to this post.

Interesting Theory: February 2015
http://brittkaufmann.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Font Geek (Part One of "Designing A Season of Show Posters"). In case you didn't already know, I love fonts. Each year, that's where I begin when designing posters for the Parkway Playhouse Mainstage Season. I research the themes, content and mood of each play and then look for a font that in some ways corresponds. It matters to me because I think it matters, subconsciously, to the viewer to- whether it registers with them or not. I frequently go to dafont.com. Doesn't have a ...

Interesting Theory: December 2012
http://brittkaufmann.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Have you thanked your child's teacher? What struck me was that every one of those teachers, aids and administrators came to school Monday with the underlying agreement that they would take a bullet for any one of our kids. That's heavy stuff. I could see it in their eyes. They would do it. We have no business fussing at them this week. In fact, we need to thank them. Teachers need our support. Results (instead of years of experience or education). As non-teachers, we need to...

A Cat Named Dog: April 2012
http://acleming.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
A Cat Named Dog. Occasional musings on art, writing and life's absurdities. Friday, April 27, 2012. How many Mondays are there in a week? I've had four frelling Mondays in a row! My "mundane" job is working as NeuroMuscular Massage Therapist, a modality based on research of too many people to go into here.* I quote a martial artist, a teacher of one of my teachers* , when I say, "I stand on the shoulders of giants.". No one expects the Spanish Inquisition.* *. And the MNINB Platform Challenge for keeping...

A Cat Named Dog: What's in a Name?
http://acleming.blogspot.com/2014/02/whats-in-name.html
A Cat Named Dog. Occasional musings on art, writing and life's absurdities. Saturday, February 8, 2014. What's in a Name? Almost 50/50 split between right and left brain. It's damn difficult for me to make a decision, YEARS in some instances. But once I do, I usually do not look back. (Just ask exes who aren't in my life anymore. : ). This is a small town. I have to be careful."*. Still haven't laid that particular argument to rest. So, when I get published, what name goes on the by-line? Whats in a Name?

A Cat Named Dog: Post-Mortum
http://acleming.blogspot.com/2013/04/post-mortum.html
A Cat Named Dog. Occasional musings on art, writing and life's absurdities. Thursday, April 4, 2013. This is the weekend I meet my 2 sisters in NC and we head to my Mom's small hometown to spread her ashes around her headstone. We are planting daffodils I have yet to dig out of my back yard. And I bought some Iris bulbs to plant. Guess we'll have to plant them close to her headstone so they don't get mowed over by the groundskeepers. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
