In which Jen and Ben, two small-town American kids, relate the marvels and mishaps of a year spent in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Monday, May 26, 2008. Put it in the fridge! But alas for Shadin, there was no room for his bottle in the fridge. I can put it in the freezer, I told him, but then it will become ice and you will have to wait for it to melt before you can drink it. He beamed again: Okay! And giggled, and lugged the heavy thing back downstairs. That one, you know, last time? Inside it turned to WATER!

In which Jen and Ben, two small-town American kids, relate the marvels and mishaps of a year spent in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Friday, March 28, 2008. Even now after four-and-a-half months of living here, nearly every time we leave the house we see something that makes us raise an eyebrow in amazement, amusement, puzzlement, or dismay. On our most recent outing to New Market we ran across these cherries? 8211; clearly food of some sort, yet the label claims they are men’s briefs. Well they won’t trick me!

In which Jen and Ben, two small-town American kids, relate the marvels and mishaps of a year spent in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Sunday, April 6, 2008. Earlier this evening Bideshi 1 and I went with some friends to our first movie-at-the-theater movie in. The experience was much the same as going to the movies in the States, with a couple of notable differences. Like many theaters in the States, this one is located in a big mall. The theater set-up was also like most American theaters. When the time came an ushe...

In which Jen and Ben, two small-town American kids, relate the marvels and mishaps of a year spent in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Wednesday, June 25, 2008. More from The Daily Star. Every other day, it seems like, there is some news story in The Daily Star that makes us shake our heads in disbelief and think, “where are we? Several weeks ago there was an article about sewage treatment in. The shit from 12.5 million people! Naturally we take rickshaws as much as possible when it rains. The Buriganga, the Turag, an...

A Bideshi Blogging from Bangladesh

A Bideshi Blogging from Bangladesh. Thursday, November 1, 2007. I'm back in Dhaka and since being back I've been having a few too many "terrible, no good very bad days". I've been frustrated that I am still sick (though definitely improving - just a bit too slowly for my liking) - and that work is not going how I expected. And my energy levels have been so low that the smallest of things seem to upset me. I certainly have nothing to complain about. Wednesday, September 26, 2007. To cut a long story short...

When I started this blog I didn’t think it would get this much attention. I’m sorry for not getting back to those who have written to me and have asked me for advice and suggestions. A Very Midwestern Life

A Very Midwestern Life. Some censuring Readers will scornfully say, why hath this Lady writ her own life? Since none cares to know whose daughter she was or whose wife she is, or how she was bred, or what fortunes she had, or how she lived, or what humor or disposition she was of? I answer that is true, that 'tis to no purpose to the Readers, but it is to the Authoress, because I write it for my own sake, not theirs. Margaret Cavendish in 1655. Tuesday, March 24, 2009. Bideshi Golmal

Thursday, January 23, 2014. Chorabali, director Redoan Rony's debut feature film, is an action/suspense thriller starring Indraneil Sengupta as 'Sumon, a ruthless assassin in the employ of a local Don. The Financial Express dismissed the film as "old wine in a new bottle,". Noting that the plot does not venture far from the stereotypical Dhallywood film. To a certain extent they're right, but coming from a country whose film industry is preparing to release. Fast and Furious 7. Or an arthouse film like.
