特定非営利活動法人バイオインフォマティクス ジャパン (NPO Bioinformatics Japan) は、特定非営利活動法人促進法の規定に基づく非営利団体 (NPO法人) です。 その実体はDNAの塩基配列 A, C, G, T の４種類の文字列 です。 我が国では、ゲノムの文字列情報を生体システムの配線図情報 分子間の相互作用 反応ネットワーク情報 に翻訳し、システムの安定性やゆらぎの観点からヒトの健康や病気、また医薬品の効果や環境物質の影響などを統合的に理解するバイオインフォマティクス技術が開発されています。 翻訳のための辞書に相当する KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes). ゲノム解読の意義として個別化医療 (personalized medicine) という言葉が使われるようになり、ゲノム情報の個人差と、薬に対する作用 副作用などの個人差とを関連づけ、ひとりひとりに最適な治療法を選択して提供することが可能になるとされています。 これを参加型医療 (participatory medicine) といいます。
