Only Interest is Politics. 2015, the year that young people turn out and vote? March 20, 2015. March 21, 2015. There are plenty of reasons why young people have little interest in voting, which most notably in my opinion, is that they cannot relate to the politicians that make up Westminster. It’s not that there is a lack of issues that affect young people; perhaps it’s just that they don’t feel that the majority of MPs uphold their interests to the degree they would like. March 11, 2015. Skip to primary content. I work with young people from the perspective that they know what they want, they sometimes simply need some advice and guidance how to get there. I like projects that are designed and developed by young people, and most importantly working with groups that have asked me to support them. Groups I’ve helped get ‘Youth In Action’ grants:. NHS spending is weighted heavily towards the elderly, with 50% of the total budget going to the over-65s. This is perhaps not surprising, especially given that most of an average individual’s healthcare costs are incurred in their final years. The problem is demographic: the number of people aged 85-plus, currently about 1.3 million, is set to almost triple by 2035. Sign up for our quarterly newsletter. Tweets by @inter gen. Unemployment among 16-24 year olds in the UK doubled in the decade to 2012 to over 1.2 million, but has recently fallen back to 625,000 pre-financial crisis levels. But young people aged 16 24 are still three times more likely to be unemployed than the rest of the population 14.4% compared to 5.7% for the population as a whole. For school-leavers and graduates, the pressure to undertake no-pay internships has intensified, with a direct impact on social mobility as only the wealthy can work for free.
