Hanging Out in the Neighborhood vs Protecting the Wiretappers | Imprtnt Ephemera
https://bitsworld.wordpress.com/2007/09/28/hanging-out-in-the-neighborhood-vs-protecting-the-wiretappers
Politics: personal and global. Hanging Out in the Neighborhood vs Protecting the Wiretappers. Within the course of a single week, the American press brought us to two extremes of what life is, was, can be, ought to be. Maybe this happens a lot and we don’t always see the connections. Or at least I don’t! The first article was actually a letter to the editor. Is this how we now judge each other? Are these really the neighborhoods where we seek a home, the conditions under which we agree to live? This one ...

Note to Sheep: Don’t Go to Belgium | Imprtnt Ephemera
https://bitsworld.wordpress.com/2007/01/04/note-to-sheep-dont-go-to-belgium
Politics: personal and global. Note to Sheep: Don’t Go to Belgium. From this morning’s. For what it’s worth, Christians also note Abraham’s willingness, and God’s reprieve. Perhaps a little more quietly however; I myself remember killing a doughnut during the coffee hour after the service that Sunday…. Doctoroff departure a blessing for NYC | Imprtnt Ephemera
https://bitsworld.wordpress.com/2007/12/06/doctoroff-departure-a-blessing-for-nyc
Politics: personal and global. Doctoroff departure a blessing for NYC. It was announced today that Deputy Mayor Daniel Doctoroff will be leaving Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration this month… but not leaving his side. Doctoroff will go on to become president of Bloomberg L.P., the financial news and analytic services company. In commenting on the deputy mayor’s record, Mr. Bloomberg said:. But does Mr. Bloomberg think we’ve forgotten that it was nearly otherwise? Anyway, to Mr. Doctoroff, I say...

Sentence-fixing for price-fixing | Imprtnt Ephemera
https://bitsworld.wordpress.com/2007/12/21/sentence-fixing-for-price-fixing
Politics: personal and global. A recent prosecution of price-fixing “criminals” has resulted in some sort of landmark decision whereby the US and the UK will cooperate to a far greater degree than in the past in ensuring that the criminals receive a sentence, whether served in the UK or the US, at least equal to that they would receive in the US. Hmmm. Here’s the passage in the FT describing the result:. The crime these men committed? What exactly is price fixing? At the same time, the governments of the...

Cultural Entropy | Imprtnt Ephemera
https://bitsworld.wordpress.com/2007/01/04/cultural-entropy
Politics: personal and global. I was riding the bus to work the other day. I saw a boy sitting on the bus, I guess on his way to school. A girl passed him who knew him. As she passed, she asked him something about a game. I got the sense that they had played a basketball game, either on the same or opposing teams. And rather than competing. The girl, as it might have been in the past, he was competing. Had she defeated him in some way? Which got me to thinking. What happens to our society when both men a...

What happened to news? | Imprtnt Ephemera
https://bitsworld.wordpress.com/2007/01/14/what-happened-to-news
Politics: personal and global. What happened to news? Ecstatic parents of boys found in Missouri hail ‘miracle’. It is truly a wonderful thing that the two boys who had gone missing in Missouri – Ben Ownby, 13, for four days, and Shawn Hornbeck, 15, for four years – have been found. Sadly, sadly, it doesn’t always turn out this way. I don’t know if it’s a miracle or not, but it does count as one of those Very Good Things. Four years the kid was gone. Shawn, I mean. What was he doing? What did they say?

Still jumpy, after all these years | Imprtnt Ephemera
https://bitsworld.wordpress.com/2007/07/18/still-jumpy-after-all-these-years
Politics: personal and global. Still jumpy, after all these years. Tonight’s explosion near Grand Central Station was alarming to all of us who were near there. The scariest thing at first was the sound. It was this loud, low rumbling sound, that sounded like a explosion that just would not stop. It just kept going and going. Strange, and scary. So why were we imagining it might be something more? Not when there’s still an uninfected computer standing. It’s just the way things are. So I’m taking he...

Plants have thoughts? Or only feelings? | Imprtnt Ephemera
https://bitsworld.wordpress.com/2007/11/16/plants-have-thoughts-or-only-feelings
Politics: personal and global. A stunning article appeared in the October/November 2007 issue of National Wildlife. The journal of the National Wildlife Federation. Titled, “Plant Siblings Not Rivals,” it describes the results of experiments carried out by Canadian researcher Susan Dudley into differing growth patterns between genetically related and unrelated plants when growing in close proximity. Weird, but incredibly cool and thought-changing. See the article here. Rdquo; an entry on Imprtnt Ephemera.

“Undone” undone by Altria | Imprtnt Ephemera
https://bitsworld.wordpress.com/2007/12/04/undone-undone-by-altria
Politics: personal and global. 8220;Undone” undone by Altria. Ok, I’m going to admit from the get-go that I don’t have all my facts straight, but that doesn’t matter. And that my headline is deliberately attention-grabbing at the expense of accuracy, but that doesn’t even matter. What matters is that it’s the way it came into my head, and so it’s the way it’ll leave my head. I don’t know. I see this in lots of other galleries too though. It’s hard to say that this stuff is any more un...Recently, Altria ...
