Hiking | Posts on Upper Peninsula Exploring on Jacob Emerick's Blog

https://blog.jacobemerick.com/hiking

Hiking, web development, best practices, and general awesomeness. Stories of Upper Peninsula Hiking. Jacob is crazy passionate about hiking in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. From the worn outcroppings of the Huron Mountains to the swamps and old growth forest deep within the Peshekee Highlands, he's either been there or is planning an adventure right now. One of Jacob's particularly fond hiking goals involved tracking down Keweenaw waterfalls. Posted August 17, 2016. Lower Red Tanks Trail. Peralta Road...

https://blog.jacobemerick.com/hiking/along-the-bell-windgate-loop

Hiking, web development, best practices, and general awesomeness. Along the Bell - Windgate Loop. March 31, 2015. The long stretch of Scottsdale mountains. Pink skies in the south betraying a sunrise. On the way to Thompson Peak. Rugged pink outcroppings on the mountains. Getting closer to the radio towers. Drinkwater and McDowell Peaks. A long, winding trail below. Sharp rocks on the trail. Locked box on the pass. Down on distant Camelback. The barest hint of a trail. Looking over at Thompson Peak.

Playing with PHP Closures | Jacob Emerick's Blog

https://blog.jacobemerick.com/web-development/playing-with-php-closures

Hiking, web development, best practices, and general awesomeness. Playing with PHP Closures. April 20, 2015. In my previous post about anonymous functions. The invoke method will get called with any passed params when you call it as if it was an anonymous function. No matter what the class is. This can be very helpful if you're building utility-like classes, like I did when I built my timezone converter. Here's an example using slugs from the anonymous functions post. Protected $trim slugs;. At first thi...

Hiking, web development, best practices, and general awesomeness. Viewing posts about Abstraction. Five years ago I played around with a PHP class to contain my resume content and abstract out optional pieces. This work ended up being unwieldy and largely unused - I had to create custom exporters to get the data out and rarely needed alternate versions of my resume. Shortly after building a few…. Hiking with Noah | Jacob Emerick's Blog

https://blog.jacobemerick.com/personal/hiking-with-noah

Hiking, web development, best practices, and general awesomeness. May 2, 2015. A very happy Noah. It's unfortunate that he'll be old enough to start longer hikes just as the summer heat really starts in Arizona. I'd love to take him on full adventures and leave the carrier behind, and I think he'd be ready for it by June or July, but I really shouldn't do too many hikes with a two year-old when the daily highs are over 120°. So I'm not sure what we'll do this summer. And Then There Was Noah. Jun 18, '15.

Lower Penn Falls on East Branch Firesteel River | Waterfalls of the Keweenaw

https://www.waterfallsofthekeweenaw.com/east-branch-firesteel-river/lower-penn-falls

Of the Keweenaw Area. Lower Penn Falls on. East Branch Firesteel River. Little cascade over sloped conglomerate. The Firesteel River is known to be one of the Upper Peninsula's slower rivers with a deep and meandering valley carved through the dirt and conglomerate around Lake Mine and Rockland. There are two hidden drops on one of its branches, though, sitting a few dozen yards from each other. The lower falls makes a somewhat sudden cascade down a small drop of rock. Jul 18, '15. Of the Keweenaw Area. Upper Penn Falls on. East Branch Firesteel River. Gentle slide over conglomerate rock. The Firesteel River is known to be one of the Upper Peninsula's more sluggish rivers, carving a deep and meandering valley through the dirt and conglomerate around Lake Mine and Rockland. Wet Hike up to Rocking Chair Lakes | Waterfalls of the Keweenaw

Of the Keweenaw Area. Wet Hike up to Rocking Chair Lakes. July 24, 2009. Drizzling skies and a soaked forest make tough obstacles on the hike up to Rocking Chair Lakes and a quick side visit to a little outflow waterfall. published on. August 13, 2015. Fog rising off the eastern cliffs. Without much of a plan I wandered east towards the rising cliffs and bumped into a busy little stream flowing over sand and mud. A stream? Of the Keweenaw Area. Tall drop into a sandstone scoop. Take A70 east from M-26 in Toivola, driving past several houses before entering the unimproved road. If your car can't handle the rough gravel, or if the road is not passable, park at the large turn off here. Head down A70 past Thirteen Mile Lake and the power lines to the (unmarked) Glone Mine Road, which is 1.8 miles outside of Toivola. Jul 18, '15. Yeah, sounds really simple Jacob! Jul 19, '15.
