Jeff Norris shares how technology and agile process combine to make software work. Tuesday, April 28, 2009. What comes from a 10 year agile project? This project has been the home of some interesting innovations, including CruiseControl. My project was one of two large projects from ThoughtWorks that started CruiseControl and open sourced it. We think we may have the longest running instance on CruiseControl in the world. Highlights just a few of our stories. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Jeff Norris shares how technology and agile process combine to make software work. Monday, March 23, 2009. Make sure to re-check your assumptions when performance tuning. We found the memory leak. This is what our properly tuned system looks like during a 66 hour test. Notice that the black line does not slowly trend upward, like it did in the last post. Framework that we use for generating xml. Generation. The problem came from an optimization. Which disables garbage collection for class definitions&#46...

Jeff Norris shares how technology and agile process combine to make software work. Thursday, September 19, 2013. Being an ally for equal treatment of women in technology. As a male, I am appalled by how poorly women in technology are treated. Back in 2009, when the pornographic slides. Came out of Golden Gate Ruby Conf. I hoped we had learned our lesson. Then in 2013 at Pycon, we had the Donglegate incident. That should be enough to make anyone step back and say this has to stop. My 9 year old son says t...

Norris Software: March 2011

http://blog.norrissoftware.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Jeff Norris shares how technology and agile process combine to make software work. Friday, March 4, 2011. Playing games is a great way to learn something new. It is also a great way to take something that you know intellectually and turn it into something that you feel instinctively. Sometimes you think you are just playing a game, but in reality, you can learn something from everything you try. When you are trying to introduce a new behavior into your team, try to make it into a game. Links to this post.

Norris Software: What takes 125 users 66 hours to discover?

http://blog.norrissoftware.com/2009/03/what-takes-125-users-66-hours-to.html

Jeff Norris shares how technology and agile process combine to make software work. Wednesday, March 18, 2009. What takes 125 users 66 hours to discover? Unfortunately, I think the answer is a very slow memory leak. For our application, we typically run 3 classes of performance test. Our quick test with 100 users for 1 hour, our longer test with 125 users for 8 hours, and our really long test with 125 users for 66 hours. Now I'm interested to see how you fix this. ;). Rhino and other beasts

Rhino and other beasts. Wednesday, August 19, 2009. Congratulations and thanks to Raphael Speyer, Rhino's GSoC student. Raphael Speyer, who worked on EcmaScript 5 support in Rhino, has completed his Google Summer of Code. Term Thanks to Raphael for his work- he met his original schedule (we all know how hard that is) and implemented most of the ES5 spec. If you're so inclined. Thanks also to Google for their support of the Google Summer of Code program. Posted by Norris Boyd. Links to this post. Java API...

The Skinny | On my many fascinations and ever-progressing lifestyle

On my many fascinations and ever-progressing lifestyle. You may recall an earlier post. About my trip to Mexico in Summer 2010. This trip presented me with numerous encounters of great oddity and intrigue. Here is a recollection of one of the memorable characters I met in Tulum. And later again in San Cristóbal. I remembered seeing Francisco before, coming or going outside of the Weary Traveller Hostel. Who himself seemed to have plenty of shared opinions. And a sport jacket. Of their honest keep, they w...
