Is a new design for 2004. She has been commissioned by a Lymington yachtsman as a recreational singlehander performance dinghy capable of dealing with the Solent waters around Lymington and Keyhaven. Thus she has a ballasted centreboard, but she is still light enough to manhandle comfortably ashore. Her lines are similar in concept to Heatwave. Sunday, August 31, 2014. The Rubbing Strakes for Pícara are made of solid Mahogany wood stock. With a thickness of 9mm, the rubbing strakes run from the bow to the transom reaching a maximum width of 50mm between stations 5 through 7. I opted for a multi-piece rubbing strake for my boat. Wednesday, July 31, 2013. With vengeance this year, with high temperature from the upper 90s (°F) / 30s (°C) to the low 100s. August promises to be hotter. Starting early in the morning ( 5 am) on weekends, and late in the evenings during week days, allowed me to make progress while avoiding the highest temperatures. Always testing the fit before bonding and only mixing small batches of epoxy with West System's 209 Super Slow hardener and colloidal silica. Plank #4 on the port side was fitted the same way.

Saturday, November 30, 2013. The outer gunwhale lamination is triangular: 15 mm wide at the base, 1 mm at the top and 25 mm high. It is made of Western Red Cedar. Friday, October 31, 2014. The Rubbing Strakes (Continued). After removing the clamps and cleats I had to step back and spend some time thinking about what I had to do next. This is delicate finishing work. I can't afford to make a mistake since that would probably mean replacing a rubbing strake piece. Shaving with my Stanley block plane. Coarse sanding (80 grit paper). Fine Sanding (220 grit paper). I'm pretty happy with the joints I achieved for being this the very first time I do this type of wood work.
