Food and thought from a vegan, atheist, feminist, bisexual, humanist, activist. Wednesday, July 21, 2010. Ok, so. I've been M.I.A because my camera broke, and no one wants a recipe without pictures, and yes, that is really all it takes to shatter my resolve. Good news is I'm getting an iPhone in August, so I'll soon be able to shoot and post away once again. Some general green smoothie tips for beginners like me:. They're not always green. Sometimes they're red or purple or brown. This is a-ok. Unless yo...

Food and thought from a vegan, atheist, feminist, bisexual, humanist, activist. Sunday, February 6, 2011. Cheezy Bean and Avocado Dip. If I cared enough about football to watch the Super Bowl, this would be what I'd eat during it! It's a spicy, creamy bean dip with chunks of cool avocado throughout that combines to a perfect bite on a crispy tortilla chip. Cheezy Bean and Avocado Dip. 1/4 cup chickpea flour (or any type of flour, really). 1/4 cup nutritional yeast. 2 tsp chili powder. 1 tsp garlic powder.

Food and thought from a vegan, atheist, feminist, bisexual, humanist, activist. Sunday, February 14, 2010. Leek and Potato Cassoulet. This is one of the very few dishes I make that really needs to be made fresh and eaten immediately. You can eat it a day or two after, but the biscuitty top does get a bit soggy and it's not quite as outrageously tasty. Also, this recipe calls for boiling the potatoes. That works fine and is probably the quickest method, but for extra flavor, try roasting them. Boil the di...

Food and thought from a vegan, atheist, feminist, bisexual, humanist, activist. Thursday, June 28, 2012. What Makes a Woman. In the various social contexts in which I hang out, there's been a lot of yammering lately about gender and sexism. There was a minor uproar recently about gender testing in the olympics. Which has, as these things do, sprawled into a vast battle about sexism and gender bias and heteronormative privilege and so on. So before we talk about whether it's okay to "verify" someone's fem...

I have an excessive build-up of opinions that need opining, rants that need screeching, writing muscles that need flexing, etc. That said, it's not like anyone else reads this anyway, amirite? Food and thought from a vegan, atheist, feminist, bisexual, humanist, activist. Friday, February 11, 2011. How do you feel about fake? The debate about whether imitation animal products help or hurt the vegan cause is. It’s also no closer to being resolved. Whether we’re talking about “fake meat” or faux fur, there’s much disagreement both within and outside of the vegan community about how those products reflect on our cause. Food and thought from a vegan, atheist, feminist, bisexual, humanist, activist. Monday, February 7, 2011. So, I'm of the opinion that a muffin should actually be a relatively healthy thing. After all, the name "muffin" implies that you can eat it for breakfast, so it should be able to get you through the morning. These are full of hearty whole grains, juicy blueberries, and don't have very much sugar. They fill you up and keep you satisfied, without triggering a day's worth of sugar cravings. Pour the mi...
