Give a farmer the resources to create a better life and he, with the help of God, will make it happen! Since only a few families had sheep and numerous families had guinea pigs, and because the start up costs for guinea pigs were relatively low, our Microfinance efforts unfolded by providing three initial loans, each less than $200 for three individuals to start a guinea pig business. Once they have their pens constructed, it's time for more guinea pig education. Through PowerPoint presentations, we ...

If I hadn’t seen it myself,. I would have thought someone was joking. Computers in a community where people are living on less than $1200 a year? Where most live in dirt floor homes? Where they are fortunate to have a lightbulb for the whole house? I’ve lived among them and know their living conditions. Imagine the look on a student’s face. Project Compassion, working with our parent organization, Blue Sparrow, Inc. who has an office in Peru, is installing computer labs in carefully selected rural, p...

Where do we start? That was the question that arose as wellness came into existence. Of our primary projects, Wellness is the most recent addition. Even so, it's quickly becoming a very significant aspect of our efforts, especially in the remote communities. When you spend enough time in their communities, you find yourself asking, I wonder why they don't do it this way or I wonder if it could be done another way? Improving living conditions when conditions are so pitiful would seem like a simple task...

For now, it's waiting time for most farmers. In some areas, due to a difference in elevation and being on the opposite slope of the mountain, farmers are just now planting peas. They plant later to avoid some of the monsoon and hope they get enough rain in early spring to produce a good crop. It's another risk the farmers face. Personal encounters with rural Peru. If everyone knew how broken the world was, would the world still be broken? Wherever we live, we are surrounded by brokenness, by evidence that some have an abundance while others are extremely lacking. But as we live in our broken world with people on both extremes and everywhere in between, our minds often go numb to the needs around us. Self-focus becomes our means of survival and those who lack the resources for a better life, continue in their predicament. Blue sparrow, inc.

Placing a Nebraska farmboy. Intrigued with the soil, the crops, and their primitive farm technology, as any good farmer would be, I went walking among their fields. I spent parts of several days walking, thinking, and praying. Their soil had potential, but they lacked the resources to create better crops. But what could I do from 4,000 miles away? Convinced it could be a suitable solution, I began the task of determining how I could get a walking tractor from Kentucky to Peru, and, more importantly, how ...

About | Project Compassion | Every life matters
http://www.procompassion.com/about.html
Our connections to Peru began when my son chose to take a gap year after high school and journeyed to Peru to volunteer at an orphanage for 10 months in 2007-2008. Shortly after his return, Project Compassion was created as a means of funding projects among poverty-stricken families similar to those my son encountered. Because every life matters. Perhaps little more needs to be said regarding our mission, but I will provide a bit more for those who are interested in a bit more detail. They may be 4,000 m...
