Bill Blunt

Tuesday, 23 October 2012. It's a brave man who accuses Bill Blunt of being a skinflint. I don't mind splashing a bit of cash when it's warranted. At the same time, in Austerity Britain it pays to keep an eye on prices. About my love of bread-making - and in particular my use of a particular organic flour produced by Doves Farm. When I first mentioned this, I highlighted how I could buy 1.5kg bags of their wholemeal flour for just 60p, in Sainsbury's. That was in January 2008. A little later ( March 2008.

Bill Blunt: Check Your Facts!

http://bluntbyname.blogspot.com/2012/08/check-your-facts.html

Thursday, 23 August 2012. It's a long time since I've had to make reference to Wally Green. As a cub reporter on the Stockport Examiner. Wally was a great influence on me. It was towards the end of March, 1967, and I received a phone call inviting me to a meeting of the Avril Phirst Appreciation Society - supposedly a group set up to commemorate the career of an Oldham actress from the 1930's. Http:/ www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk. And in less than 24 hours had appeared here. Not to mention here. Bill Blu...

http://bluntbyname.blogspot.com/2012/06/i-was-delighted-to-learn-that-my-good.html

Thursday, 7 June 2012. I was delighted to learn that my good friend, Derek J Ripley, is about to have a book published. I first met Derek when he was working as a librarian in Stockport and I was a cub reporter on the Stockport Argus and Mail. And we have kept in touch across the decades. I wish him every success with his publication - there are more details here. Posted by Bill Blunt. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Bill Blunt is an institution. Ace Photographer Escapes Drudgery. Bill Blunt: Tripe Fights Back!

http://bluntbyname.blogspot.com/2012/08/tripe-fights-back.html

Wednesday, 29 August 2012. Five years ago I reported here. That tripe sales had been facing a year on year decline since 1953. The Tripe Marketing Board were marshaling their (admittedly slim) resources and preparing a comeback for the product. It has taken time. Fortunately, a bequest from a recently-deceased tripe lover means they have been able to invest heavily in advertising and social media. They now have a website. And a YouTube Channel. Bill Blunt: Pole Dancing

http://bluntbyname.blogspot.com/2012/06/pole-dancing.html

Thursday, 21 June 2012. Who'd have thought it? My good friend Derek Ripley has uncovered evidence of the first Pole Dancing Club in Failsworth, near Oldham (one of my former haunts - Oldham, that is, not Failsworth). It just goes to show you what the power of history is. Derek's new book is out in a week or so. I'll doubtless be asked to plug it, so I might as well direct you to his website. Posted by Bill Blunt. http://randomplaceofmind.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Random place of mind. Friday, 22 August 2008. I saw this list on Bill Blunt's. I love books and take after my father for that. The thought of throwing books away fills me with sadness. I have attempted to do this in the past and not succeeded. Thankfully my niece is a bookworm too so I can pass them on to her now. I have banned myself from going to the enormous Waterstones in Manchester as it like entering a time warp. suddenly 2 hours have passed and I only went into get a specific book. Great Expectati...

random place of mind: extensions are good.......

http://randomplaceofmind.blogspot.com/2009/04/extensions-are-good.html

Random place of mind. Monday, 27 April 2009. Today I should have been doing a there and back trip to Hereford to attend 'dismantle day'. Yes how quickly have the 6 weeks passed and the 'Unsung Heroes' exhibition had run its course. At a late hour the Gallery asked if we could extend the exhibition a further 2 weeks . fantastic. It is great for us exhibitors and very good for the gallery that would have been empty for 2 weeks! It turns out it was this photo. 27 April 2009 at 17:01. Ok, sorry. but afte...

Random place of mind. Wednesday, 1 April 2009. Liverpool in the spring . Whilst strolling from the station to our Liverpool office I spotted this. not difficult to miss as it is huge. Derek's History Den: Forgotten Films

http://ripleyshistory.blogspot.com/2013/03/forgotten-films.html

Sunday, 24 March 2013. I have somewhat inevitably been absent from the blogosphere over the last few months as I have been working hard on the follow-up to my first book, Forgotten Lancashire. I am pleased to say that this has now been completed and The Lost Films of 20th Century Spatchcock. Is now available for sale on Amazon and should be filtering its way into bookshops sometime soon. Meanwhile, I have been able to complete a number of articles for my friends at Lancashire Life. Taking a break for a w...

Thoughts and worries from the wrong side of the hill! Just another WordPress.com weblog. June 12, 2012. Day 2, all at sea…………. So, we emerge from the foc’sle bunks extremely early on Day 2. Captain Nick and Mate Steve are still asleep, but I decide to press ahead with tea making – it looks quite bright outside – the weather is changing for the better and things are looking up. I was looking forward to seeing it from the water this time. More next time – I am drowning in work at the moment! Hannah’s...
