The desolate grating of the pebbles is transferred to the sense of desolation inside him (p7). The snow and wild pomegranates are personified as silent watchers and motionless witnesses , waiting to see what he might do. (p8). April, for Gjorg has been metaphorically broken . A flashback of Gjorg’s great grandfather and a stranger chronicles how the blood feud started and also alludes to the theme of fate, a ghost had knocked, or fate itself (pg 31). Tags: Kulla of Orosh. The airplane that Gjorg encounters as he is making his journey towards the castle of Orosh is anachronistic as it does not fit with the description of the sense of place in this chapter.

When Bessian first points out a mountaineer, for instance, Bessian points at the mountaineer’s black ribbon on his right sleeve. After telling Diana that the black ribbon was the mark of death (68), Diana responds with how terrible! Up until chapter three, this seems to be the very case. Chapter Three Plot Development.

Mention of “wild pomegranate shrubs” and “patches of snow” (p.157) help tie it back to the location of the first chapter.
