We decided to take the arduous 400 mile Dempster “Highway”, (a dirt road), through the Northwest Territories where we crossed the arctic circle and continued North to Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean. Where We’ve Been. Where We Go From Here…. The Rig Charley Cummins. June 9, 2013. We were a bit dismayed to see adults with sometimes up to three children on one bike all sans helmets. Children literally grow up riding bikes on busy Amsterdam streets and can be licensed at 12 years of age. There are no helmet requirements in the Netherlands and, considering that 40% of all trips within the city happen on bikes, the rider/driver skills in avoiding accidents are remarkable.
