Build a Boat, Sail Away. A middle aged family man decides to build a sailboat and run away. Confessions of a Novice Boat Builder. Links for Builders and Dreamers. Launching: The Full Report. Our first hurdle was to fix tangled halyard lines. My son is helping me consult the instructions. Still working on the lines. There's nearly 300 feet of rope on this boat! My old Subaru cooperated by not breaking down or balking at the weight and we arrived early afternoon. I proudly drove past the sign trailers ...

Canoe Yawl... Someday: January 2014

Canoe Yawl. Someday. Building a sailboat to Iain Oughtred's Eun Mara design. Sunday, January 12, 2014. Well, the holidays have come and gone. The past busy month and a half have left me with less time for boaty things. For the most time I've dealt with that by neglecting the internet portions of my boating hobby, though the building part has slowed a bit, too. Here's a view from a different angle. Posted by D. Handron. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Building the Eun Mara "Skerry". Building a Grey Seal.

Canoe Yawl. Someday. Building a sailboat to Iain Oughtred's Eun Mara design. Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Well it's been some time since my last update. I have been working, but truthfully - it's not very interesting. Or photogenic. But that is set to change soon, so I thought I'd set the stage. Rough surface left by wood flour mixture. Smoother surface left by fairing compound. Tools of the trade. I had been using the station moulds as a reference for marking the scarf joints, and so all the joints fall ...

Canoe Yawl. Someday. Building a sailboat to Iain Oughtred's Eun Mara design. Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Experimenting with fiberglass cloth over the plank lands. I don't want to round over the edges of the planking more than I need to, so I made up a test piece from some scrap. My System Three squeegee makes an appropriately sized fillet. The cloth clings nicely to both the inside and outside curves. The radius left by the tongue depressor is too tight! Posted by D. Handron. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Build A Boat With Ben | …and Jim
August 16, 2014 12:25 pm. As of last Saturday, there is no longer a lingering doubt that something might go horribly awry when this project turned from boat building to boat floating. Sea trials are complete and she performs quite nicely. There are still numerous details to sort through, but she’s now a boat, not a project. Photos follow. So Very. Close. August 3, 2014 9:51 am.
