ideas in motion: rational time, another instance of failed social construction?
http://imotion.blogspot.com/2013/01/rational-time-another-instance-of.html
Rational time, another instance of failed social construction? We rarely get convinced by the force of the argument, for that you need shared experience matched by language. It's usually the case that we are convinced either by ideologies or ideologues. So much for our epoch's claim to rationality, whose lack thereof, by the way, generates many a headache, amplified as it is by the formal exclusion of the irrational. What a treat, thank you for your comment, Simon! Yes, I loosely take rational time to me...

http://imotion.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
I remember when I was a corporate cog waiting for the time to pass and call it a day. Until I realized it was my own time I was in effect wishing away, as if I had been living on someone else's time. How sad is it then to see no revolutionary demand for time? How ironic is it to see each recent technology wave promising more time for ourselves! Thank you for your time(s). Links to this post. ideas in motion: Bubble tea, tea or Coca-Cola?
http://imotion.blogspot.com/2012/07/bubble-tea-tea-or-coca-cola.html
Bubble tea, tea or Coca-Cola? This past winter, during a half-day stopover in Paris, I took to its streets, wandering more or less aimlessly. Near the Archives nationales. I went into a boutique de thé. Tea shop, where I must have spent more than a half-hour going through three large rooms whose walls were lined up with teas of all kinds. I concluded with one of the three sales ladies that we must have entered the Asian century since we were talking theine. In France, a place associated rather with tannin.

http://imotion.blogspot.com/2012/11/china-by-jean-julien-pous.html
China by Jean-Julien Pous. China is still often misunderstood and frightening to most Westerners. Despite the violence of its development and the cultural divide that separates us, their universal concerns bring them closer to us. As a portrait of modern China through the eyes of people met in the streets, Beijing Strangers let us dive into the lives of different generations and social backgrounds. They share their dreams, fears and beliefs towards themselves and their country. A little less than 3 years...

ideas in motion: On Syria
http://imotion.blogspot.com/2013/09/on-syria.html
That Obama has overtaken Bush II is a fact that comes to show who's not in charge at the White House. So, as if doubling up in Afghanistan were not enough of a Bushism, and Obama wanted his own mark on the Axis of Evil. The talk now is about Syria. In a way, Syria is a proxy for Iran, but not without its own risk: Russia. The discussion here goes beyond the traditional relation between the two countries and reaches, for example, strategic levels. In short, it's about GAS. 2) UPI reports that. Another fai...

http://imotion.blogspot.com/2008/09/wall-street-how-good-of-approximation.html
Wall Street: How good of an approximation for market-based capitalism? Four months ago I challenged the LinkedIn community with a topic titled " Survival of Capitalism. Last week, one of my LinkedIn connections asked the question " Is capitalism dead? Needless to say, within the time between these two almost identical questions, the answers have taken quite different paths. Here's what I've learned myself, or how I replied to the second question:. This letter was sent to Congress on Wed Sept 24 2008 rega...

ideas in motion: most look for the past, the lucky seize the moment, the very few look round the corners
http://imotion.blogspot.com/2010/08/most-look-for-past-lucky-seize-moment.html
Most look for the past, the lucky seize the moment, the very few look round the corners. At the thinking person level, the economy is mostly a narrative line or another. Sometimes, we feel like joining narratives, yet the ideologues in charge with economic policy would have none of that. This would matter only little had the economic narratives remained constrained to the space of ideas. But economic narratives drive policy and passions, they commingle dialectically with reality. If we make it through, t...
