Living a life of big dreams and worthy aspirations... but not always gracefully
On the Wings of a Pig: December 2012
http://christinecpk.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
On the Wings of a Pig. Living a life of big dreams and worthy aspirations. but not always gracefully. Tuesday, December 18, 2012. The Advent devotional I read this morning said that in medieval Europe, worship services leading up to Christmas included seven invitations for God to come: Come, O Wisdom; Come, O Lord; Come, O Branch of Jesse; Come O Key of David; Come O Dayspring; Come, O King of Nations. And Come O Emmanuel. Is a compilation of those seven pleas:. O come, O come, Emmanuel! My husband and I...

On the Wings of a Pig. Living a life of big dreams and worthy aspirations. but not always gracefully. Wednesday, July 31, 2013. As I lay in the dark of a quiet, sleeping house, these were the words I wanted to tell him. I celebrate you today, my incredible little boy- celebrate who you are, who you will be, and who you have shaped me to be. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). On the Wings of a Pig: The Rest Can Go Undone
http://christinecpk.blogspot.com/2014/05/pounds.html
On the Wings of a Pig. Living a life of big dreams and worthy aspirations. but not always gracefully. Saturday, May 10, 2014. The Rest Can Go Undone. Pounds. Gallons. Miles per Gallon. Miles per Hour. Hours. We have ways of measuring things as intangible as wind, speed, and time, but how does one go about scientifically measuring love. Until recently I would have told you that there is no accurate measurement, but now I know that there is: Tupperware. Love from friends, family and students who care for o...
On the Wings of a Pig: April 2012
http://christinecpk.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
On the Wings of a Pig. Living a life of big dreams and worthy aspirations. but not always gracefully. Sunday, April 15, 2012. As a little girl, our family lived in a yellow house with a white picket fence, and a long, steep driveway leading to a big backyard. The dirt under the apricot tree was dark and cool, and the swing set sat next to it in the sun, squeaky and made of metal. Without planning, scheduling or scheming. Before that we are trying to establish a rhythm with our family and in our home....
On the Wings of a Pig: Following from the Couch
http://christinecpk.blogspot.com/2012/10/following-from-couch.html
On the Wings of a Pig. Living a life of big dreams and worthy aspirations. but not always gracefully. Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Following from the Couch. Confession: I've been having elaborate fantasies late at night when I can't sleep. Usually it is about a brownie sundae: the feeling of the spoon as it glides through the melting vanilla ice cream on top, and then the weight of the fudgy brownie underneath; the combination of warm and cold, chewing together in my mouth. It has definitely been a huge le...

Simple Diva: April 2012
http://simplediva.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 30, 2012. If God has deemed us worthy who are we to disagree with God? Friday, April 20, 2012. Earlier this week I was on the bus and took my seat near the back. I noticed the man sitting alone in the back row, clearly already drinking despite the fact it was 10 am, but also clearly so far into his alcoholism that his functioning while drunk was pretty high. He was polite and quiet. He noticed that I noticed him, so I said hello. He seemed surprised that I greeted him, but grateful. Further...
Simple Diva: It is time to write, and rename
http://simplediva.blogspot.com/2014/03/it-is-time-to-write-and-rename.html
Wednesday, March 12, 2014. It is time to write, and rename. I am pretty sure that most of the people who read this talk to me often enough that you don't need a blog to tell you about my life, but in recent weeks I have realized the much of my creative energy is getting lost to the ether and I. Might need a blog as a tool to keep me engaged. So, please join me in the next few weeks as my blog and I go on an identity seeking adventure. Hints on the new name are welcome. Simple Diva: March 2012
http://simplediva.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 30, 2012. I am pretty sure I have known everything there is to know about the Bible since I was like 5. No, really no one has ever needed to teach me anything, because I know it all. Every youth minister, and pastor, and Sunday school teacher I have ever had can attest to my knowledge. Or total lack there of. (Proof that I didn't real know everything: In 12th grade I thought that Calvinism had died with the pilgrims. I told my youth minister that. He was a Calvinist. Oops! It makes me silen...
Simple Diva: February 2012
http://simplediva.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 25, 2012. Source: booklover.tumblr.com. Thursday, February 23, 2012. Whatever is pleasing. think about these things. During Lent I am aiming to be more grateful and to see the gifts of God in all that I am surrounded by. Here is my visual and written account of gratitude for today. I am grateful for a city filled with flower shops, and for flowers in mason jars and tiny shot glasses that former roommates left behind. I am grateful for sunny days and the ability to ride my bike to work.
Simple Diva: Day 56: Free Museum Day
http://simplediva.blogspot.com/2013/07/day-56-free-museum-day.html
Tuesday, July 2, 2013. Day 56: Free Museum Day. I love that I live in a city where I can do so many wonderful things for free. Today was free admission at The De Young, The Legion of Honor, and the Conservatory of flowers. My bike lock is missing and I wasn't in the mood to be on the bus- yes, I am that lazy, so I skipped the Legion of Honor and stuck to the De Young and The Conservatory of Flowers. This is my favorite piece. Grape Juice and Sandwiches. Labels: adventures in the city. All images via pint...
Simple Diva: May 2012
http://simplediva.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 31, 2012. I posted a mildly controversial cartoon on my Facebook today and got the response I expected. Posting it was more of an act of courage than you might think. Up to this point have preferred to keep my Facebook and blog politically neutral on certain issues, mostly the pro-life issue, to be exact. I had a few more really intense conversations on the subject, and again I can tell you where I was sitting for most of them. Changing my stance on the issue wasn't easy, and when I rea...
Simple Diva: September 2012
http://simplediva.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 25, 2012. Facing my fear of missing out and what drives it. I recently had the opportunity to participate in a ReImagine conversation on overcoming the fear of missing out. This is what I wrote. Source: granvillehouse.blogspot.com. I averaged 5 hours of sleep a night and lived off caffeine. Still, I wasn't getting much sleep and I was rushing around constantly, and to make matters worse I felt guilty for all the ways I wasn't doing enough. I remember often waking up to my messy roo...

Simple Diva: Day 50: Tennis Lessons
http://simplediva.blogspot.com/2013/06/day-50-tennis-lessons.html
Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Day 50: Tennis Lessons. Today marks the beginning of my third effort to learn to play tennis. Once upon a time in High School I discovered that despite being in the top percentage of my class, I was not going to graduate because I was short a PE credit. So, I gladly dropped my AP German class and signed up for tennis. After my first six weeks I received a B in the class. I was livid! Each day of class my instructor would rail on about how community college students are slackers ...
Simple Diva: The Shampoo Simplicity Update
http://simplediva.blogspot.com/2011/03/shampoo-simplicity-update.html
Sunday, March 6, 2011. The Shampoo Simplicity Update. Seriously, this add. It too funny.). Well I did it Starting with January 23 I only washed my hair on Saturdays. ( You can read the original post here. It was inspired by this post by The GOOD Chanel. It was not life changing, but it was a challenge. Each week went something like this:. Sunday - clean, almost dry/frizzy. I find it odd that I never noticed how frizzy my clean hair is. Tuesday - still rocking the clean look: rinse at night. I can would r...

The View From Here | An American living in Dublin for the year…
8220;The View from Here”. 52 Deoch an Doras. Deoch an dorais is a common expression in Irish pubs and homes: it literally means drink of the door, but a more idiomatic translation would be parting glass or one for the road. There’s a popular song about this idea: it’s not simply about downing one more drink while you can but more about marking the resolution that must accompany a departure that is not eagerly anticipated far from. 50 The View From Here. 49 To the Lighthouse. On the Wings of a Pig
On the Wings of a Pig. Living a life of big dreams and worthy aspirations. but not always gracefully. Wednesday, September 20, 2017. There is a heaviness that drags on my heart, like mourning a death, like mourning a thousand invisible deaths. Like being erased. And that’s what it feels like— as though parts of me were slowly being erased. In my better moments, I trust that all of this letting go, all of this death and grieving and all of these thousands of little losses will. Be made new, will bring new...
