The Carbon Fibre Revolution. Up to 40% weight saving over alloy sections. Lower vertical centre of gravity (VCG) results in: Reduced pitching moment; For the same ballast, switching to a carbon rig results in a stiffer boat which can carry more sail and accelerates faster. Boats which are designed with carbon rigs need less righting moment - draught or costly ballast can be reduced.
