Was born and raised in Texoma and. Currently resides with his wife and two dogs on a rural route in Southern Illinois. He has published, read conference papers, and edited in the academic field on Bob Dylan and James Joyce in addition to publishing short fiction and creative nonfiction of his own. His creative writing focuses, not surprisingly, on the rural folks he grew up with. Van Winkle is named for the oldest Cartwright son on.
