Friday, 3 April 2009. This is my return to blog land after a very long and unintentional sabbatical. sorry but life seemed to just get in the way, you know how it is sometimes? Hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things slowly ( if i can remember how to do all of this! I have tried to keep the old arthriticky. A gorgeous piece made from silk paper complete with ballet slippers . just beautiful. Sue is an accomplished master of felt, in particular carving of the industrial sort! Also beaded. A t...

Cre8ive Threads: Cretan Stitch and June Arch Swap

http://cre8ivethreads.blogspot.com/2008/06/cretan-stitch-and-june-arch-swap.html

Thursday, 26 June 2008. Cretan Stitch and June Arch Swap. I haven't been doing a lot of stitch lately but continue to be involved with the groups monthly arch swaps and a little fun postcard swap. June's arch was for my partner Annette and because she left it up to me re: colour and theme I was stumped trying to come up with something different (thinking everyone will be bored to death with the twin needling stuff! She's watched me making oodles of these over the years but I'm yet to actually send one to...

Cre8ive Threads: April 2008

http://cre8ivethreads.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 29 April 2008. Not a lot to report on the creative front other than finishing off the beetroot dyed/recycled piece that I began a while ago. I added some little found feathers. Which were hellish to colour up because of their resistance to liquids (obviously! So ended up using markal sticks and just brushed the colour on with very light strokes. I quite like the results. Links to this post. Saturday, 26 April 2008. This is a small sample piece that was given as a postcard swap a little while ago.

Cre8ive Threads: in answer

http://cre8ivethreads.blogspot.com/2008/04/in-answer.html

Saturday, 26 April 2008. Carol, in answer to your question about the recipe for 'Fossiled evidence'; this was a real cocktail of handmade silk fibres, embedded into scrim and muslin. The stars of the show were recycled physalis. Leaves, my natural ephemera, and because of the natural sugar it wasn't too difficult to work them into this background. The amazing fact is; that they have survived intact for so long- no cracks or crumbling! Of it al the colours the textures. Sunday, April 27, 2008.

kartklan capers: Dyes are out again!

http://kartklancapers.blogspot.com/2009/05/dyes-are-out-again.html

Thursday, 21 May 2009. Dyes are out again! Finally I have managed to "random dye" some threads with results that I'm pleased with. Over the years I've tried on and off to get results like the hand dyed threads you can buy, but have remained unsuccessful.until now. Think a lot of the problem was that i just sloshed a bit of dye about and hoped for the best! So, out came the Helen Deighan book, Dyeing in Plastic bags, and, something I don't do very often, actually read. 21 May 2009 at 12:04.

kartklan capers: June 2009

http://kartklancapers.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Monday, 8 June 2009. On Saturday I facilitated a workshop at Step by Step Patchwork Centre. In South Molton on a very simplified way of piecing curves. Having completed lots of samples and a finished piece all well in advance I decided, at the last minute, like you do, to make up a "sample" of how well this technique would work for a landscape. kartklan capers: Back in the Northern Hemisphere

http://kartklancapers.blogspot.com/2009/05/back-in-northern-hemisphere.html

Sunday, 10 May 2009. Back in the Northern Hemisphere. And I haven't been completely idle! Have been doing some dyeing, yes MORE dyeing. The method for dyeing these was given to me by a kindred spirit,(thanks Vinnie). But honestly if you work it out on paper first it's simple, just a challenge to write! Water, salt and soda solution was then added to each cup. The dye from each cup was then transferred to a plastic bag and a fat quarter(ish) was added to each bag, left overnight and voila!

kartklan capers: May 2008

http://kartklancapers.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, 29 May 2008. And now for something completely different. Bought these jumpers, all pure wool, handwash only. Washed them in a rather hot wash (intentionally) and now they're a shadow of their former self. I'm going to make a bag from the hood of the blue one first, storage again! Not sure what the other two will end up as, will await inspiration. Links to this post. Then there were three.again. Free machine applique, machined cords, buttons and beads were then added as embellishments. This time...

kartklan capers: Repurposing books.....

http://kartklancapers.blogspot.com/2009/04/repurposing-books.html

Tuesday, 21 April 2009. On a rather lovely day out in Melbourne with my sister visiting the particularly trendy Fitzroy Street, Brunswick street and Rose St Market we spotted some tired, and in some cases rather battered books (well just their hard covers) that had been given a new lease of life, that of a delightful notebook. A button and tie was added as I always tuck loose bits of paper into any notebooks used and they inevitably fall out! What a great idea, true recycling, I don't think i need to go t...

kartklan capers: March 2009

http://kartklancapers.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, 28 March 2009. Screenprinting can be addictive. The tape used on my sketch book cover was printed with this piece, hence the "blank" line running through! And finally just had to make up a fabric basket using some of my new treasures. Links to this post. More scraps to use up! Decided to use the bits of fabric left over from my basket making extravaganza to make a long awaited sketchbook cover. The appliqued leaves were from fabric I stamped a spiral onto using a rolled up kitchen sponge! When ...

Monday, 30 June 2008. Links to this post. Sunday, 29 June 2008. Block and Screen Printing. Decided to do a bit of further work on the fabrics dyed last weekend. Have had a play with screenprinting in the past and decided to resurrect my old battered screen and squeegie! I then printed the black centre with a foam dot when the flower was dry. Now, what shall i do with these? May print further but not sure yet. Links to this post. Monday, 23 June 2008. The first photo is when wet, the second when dry and t...

kartklan capers: October 2008

http://kartklancapers.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Monday, 6 October 2008. Well what fun I had this weekend! Met up with three like minded friends and created from dawn 'til dusk. I had wanted to have a go at the "bark fabric" technique that Val has explored and written about on her blog. Although I didn't want to create a finished piece that resembled tree bark i was intrigued at what background effects could be created using this method. So off I went. The peice was zapped with a hot air gun and stamped using foam blocks. Links to this post. After much...

Creative Touch by Krystal

Monday, August 10, 2015. July was a busy month for us! We had family and friends visiting us for a couple weekends in a row, some traveling, fishing trips, and haying! The best little auctioneers in town! Skipper is Jacob's new best friend. He is adorable if I do say so myself! Ironing my hubby's shirt and I feel something in his pocket. I screamed. He laughed! Just a fishing lure, but I still made a lifelong commitment of no ironing! Saturday, July 18, 2015. But most of all by me! I told the boys I was ...
