David died in 1974, from six (6) gun shot wounds. The sixth and final gunshot was fired by another member of his set, Larry Hoover. After Barksdale's death the power was to transfer to Don Derky, but Hoover and Freeman divided the gang and went their seperate ways. Hoover and Freeman became bitter enemies.
