Day 6 – Long Xuyen to Chau Doc | Cycle for CARE

http://www.cycleforcare.co.uk/vietnam-cambodia-2015/day-6-long-xuyen-to-chau-doc

Cycling through Vietnam and Cambodia to support Lend with CARE. Day 6 – Long Xuyen to Chau Doc. Vietnam to Cambodia 2015. A 6:30am start this morning and a short minibus ride out of the city. We were promised a relatively short and easy paced ride after the previous two long days, giving us plenty of opportunity to take photographs. The most challenging part of the ride this morning was 3 large bridges one after another, with sharp 90 degree bends in between. By this point though we’d all achie...We had ...

Day 9 – Kampong Chhnang to Battambang | Cycle for CARE

Cycling through Vietnam and Cambodia to support Lend with CARE. Day 9 – Kampong Chhnang to Battambang. Vietnam to Cambodia 2015. It was a 7am start and a relief to be cycling in the cool of the morning on our way to the Ton le Sap river, where we saw a family making smoked fish. First they lined them up in neat rows on skewers, then blackened them over a low fire. This helps preserve the fish so they keep for up to a year, providing a cheap source of protein. Preparing fish for smoking. Rather than use a...

Day 7 – Chau Doc to Phnom Penh | Cycle for CARE

http://www.cycleforcare.co.uk/vietnam-cambodia-2015/day-7-chau-doc-to-phnom-penh

Cycling through Vietnam and Cambodia to support Lend with CARE. Day 7 – Chau Doc to Phnom Penh. Vietnam to Cambodia 2015. We left the hotel at 7am to catch our chartered boat to Phnom Penh. We were sad to say goodbye to Phat and Hai who had looked after us so well for the last few days. Eventually we started to see Phnom Penh in the distance, and as we got closer tall buildings seemed quite alien after the last few days. Coming in by boat was an amazing way to arrive in the city. Our guide showed us seve...

Laos to Cambodia 2016 | Cycle for CARE

http://www.cycleforcare.co.uk/laos-to-cambodia-2016

Cycling through Vietnam and Cambodia to support Lend with CARE. Laos to Cambodia 2016. We’re heading back to South East Asia in November 2016 with another CARE International UK event. This time cycling through Laos and Cambodia. At around 650km this will be almost half as much cycling as we did in Vietnam and Cambodia in 2015, and the terrain will involve more hills, particularly in Laos. About Cycle for Change. Mt Everest in all her glory. A bleary eyed Eri with Mt. Everest in the background. Struggling over rock and building material piled high behind the guest house we made our way to a raised area flattened with crushed rock about 5 metres across. helicopter landing pad Kanccha said with a smile. Thank god we had walked here because landing on this little patch of rock would have been scarier than Lukla by a mile and not a proposition I would ever want to contemplate. As we gradually ...

Cycle for Change

March 14, 2010. Another beautiful day for the Cycle for Change team, completing the Challenge happily and relatively safely. We had two crashes in the last 2km as “summit fever” gripped the tired crew, but nothing but more bark and a bit of blood left behind. We started at 7am with a frosty 3km climb out of Buchan, which was beautiful as the fog burned off the valley as we climbed. Posted by The Smith Family Challenge. The kindness of strangers….
