The results were all negative and thus we were spared from having to make any tough decisions with regards to ending the pregnancy due to any serious developmental issues. It would be very practical to know the sex in order to properly refer to your in utero. Offspring as "him" or "her" instead of the very impersonal "it" all the time. Monday, September 14, 2009. On Wednesday my wife is scheduled for a dating ultrasound at which we should be able to hear the baby's heartbeat. That must be amazing. My wife has already heard it as she went to the clinic for a number of standard tests around week 12 or 13. I wasn't able to attend that appointment so this will be my first chance to get tangible evidence that there is actually a living and growing being in my wife - what a strange visual to try and conceptualize.
