A Navy wife's life overseas. Wednesday, December 19, 2007. Whaling Sheds and Banjo Music. Merry Christmas from Japan! As always, click on the images for larger versions. I was terrible company, very boring, staying in the car to catch up on a backlog of work. (More about Arita in another post! Sunday, MM headed out to Nagasaki overnight, and I collected him the next evening at the JR (Japan Rail) station, where we enjoyed tonkatsu and conversation. I was just about at the point of suggesting we turn back...

I think MM got the level 2, and even that was a little much for him! Note to self: start visitors out with a level 0 or 1, unless you KNOW they're chili-heads! And yakking away for a couple of hours,...

A Navy wife's life overseas. Friday, June 27, 2008. Lighting the Way Home. Here is another vignette from our lives here in Japan. There is so much more to tell you, but not enough time to tell it in! More to come, of course. Please forgive the blurry photos, as I was dealing with the dark, and my camera was NOT behaving. (Of course, I felt flash photography would not be appropriate in the least! As always, click on the photos for larger images. Though the entire thing was very foreign to our eyes, it was...

A Navy wife's life overseas. Monday, May 04, 2009. Stalking the Savage Fern. Was making me very carsick! We stopped at an uncle's house (he wasn't home) to use the toilet and pet the uncle's dog. Then Hiroko's taciturn father took me behind the house to a surprisingly dark stand of cedar trees. There were two low bars, with branches (thin logs? Holes where wild boars had rooted up some shoots to eat, scattering bits and pieces everywhere. We continued up and up and up. The second, smaller house had a ver...

A Navy wife's life overseas. Friday, September 07, 2007. Edited with a new image, below! It's been far, far too long since I've managed to post here, and I apologize. Our unexpected trip to the US, my mother-in-law's passing, pneumonia, and simply having a husband at home again have all taken their toll. But.it's time to get back to adventures, and I'm still so very behind! Here's another grocery store story, to tide us all over until I can post more this weekend about my adventures with MM. And carefull...

Joy or Misery?: Jul 4, 2006
http://joynotmisery.blogspot.com/2006_07_04_archive.html
Tuesday, July 04, 2006. I love Independence Day. It's Mom's favorite holiday. On most humid summer days, if you ask what either of us would like to do, we'd both inevitably choose something air conditioned, probably a museum or something. Chamber music, anyone? July 4th is different. My mother and I have our own tradition.we find the most minor league baseball team possible (Hello, Kannapolis Intimidators! Independence Day for me. Good to get a bunch of it done! Sounds like a boring July 4th to most folk...
