My parents have set themselves the challenge of watching all the films on the AFI top 100 list. Which means I get to watch them too! Monday, 23 April 2012. 67 Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Two very bitter people try to make two other people bitter too. Not a lot for me here. I liked the music, but the rest was a bit boring for me. First time for Mum. "Wow, just wow! I've been a little disappointed with most of the ones I hadn't seen before, this one was just brilliant, an absolute masterpiece! Mum had ...

My parents have set themselves the challenge of watching all the films on the AFI top 100 list. Which means I get to watch them too! Sunday, 4 December 2011. The president of Freedonia declares war over the love of a woman. I thought Firefly was very funny. Mum had seen this one before. "Loved this one. It's just one whole lot of surrealism courtesy of the Marx brothers. From physical comedy, the insults, the one-liners. they had so much influence on future cinema/comedy.". 58 The Gold Rush. A Film a Day.

My parents have set themselves the challenge of watching all the films on the AFI top 100 list. Which means I get to watch them too! Friday, 18 February 2011. 24 ET: The Extraterrestrial. An alien gets left behind, he's befriended by a little boy. I liked this one. The alien made cute noises and I liked the little girl. Oh, and why did the guy in the spacesuit try and get in through the window? And why did they have spacesuits on? Re-watching it has caused me pain.". Thursday, 17 February 2011. Some men ...

My parents have set themselves the challenge of watching all the films on the AFI top 100 list. Which means I get to watch them too! Wednesday, 16 March 2011. 36 The Bridge On The River Kwai. Some men make a bridge. I really liked the theme tune and Alec Guinness. Mum had seen this one before. "Great performances from Holden and Guinness, not forgetting Hayakawa. Beautifully filmed, its only flaw is to claim to be a portrayal of true events.". Great film, great acting and an awesome ending. ". Evil step-...

A Film a Day: May 2014

A Film a Day. Friday, 16 May 2014. Top 100 (97) Community Countdown. 90 - 81. Part one 97-91 found here. This episode had a lot to shoulder. A small but dedicated following, many keyed into the minutiae of behind the scenes events, asked to stay with a show that had lost it's very loud key speaker. Harmon was gone, and the worry was the show had so much of his DNA woven into that it would not be the same. Or were we all just too tied into the cult of personality? 4x10 Intro to Knots. You linked all our s...

A Film a Day. Sunday, 20 April 2014. Community 1x03 Introduction to Film. 3 episodes in and Community was cementing as one of the most delightful sitcoms around. A brilliantly funny, silly, heartfelt half hour that may have had a new character come in and basically spell out in not so subtle terms the theme of the ep but used that to show itself a show dedicated to exploring the characters inner lives as much as making references to Dead Poets Society or outrageous sneezes. Saddest shitty film you will e...
A Film a Day: Balalalala

A Film a Day. Friday, 16 January 2015. Big Hero 6 (2014). A lesser known comic property owned by Disney Big Hero 6 attempts to do for superheroes what Kung Fu Panda did for, umm, kung fu and How to Train your Dragon did for dragons. And in Baymax (despite the 6 in the title this film is really only concerned with 1) it almost succeeds. A sweet funny creation with an adorable design and good voicework from Scott Adsit (and presumably a computer). Still, a pleasant enough movie. My Year of Games. A most re...
A Film a Day: September 2013
http://mondofilmaday.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
A Film a Day. Saturday, 7 September 2013. I think you're a 3! The Way Way Back. Welcome to another review of a Jim Rash written film where I don't talk much about the movie itself, which is a sweet, though not exactly subtle tale of an awkward teenager on his holidays (my other was The Descendants - found here. A fine film that I choose to talk about my parents and grandparents instead of reviewing because of a thing that i'm going to examine instead of the film now). Postscript. So this may be the m...

A Film a Day. Tuesday, 14 May 2013. The Penny Problem or: A defense of Captain Hammer. But now we pick pick. Pick pick pick it apart. Open it up to find the. Tick tick tick of a heart. A heart, broken". Dr Horrible's Sing-along Blog. I'm basically saying he's Walter White. We get that Dr. Horrible is the bad guy right? I mean apart from the whole actually wanting to be a super villain thing. Sure he's smart, good looking, shy and can belt a show tune or two but he's a massive raging asshole. Thoughts of ...

A Film a Day. Wednesday, 22 April 2015. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). This isn't on general release yet and I will be talking about some plot points so cheese it if you don't want to know about specific details. Having got the introductions and assembling out of the way in the first one this sequel is able to start straight into the action with a fun assault on a Hydra base that's lets each of the team highlight an exciting bit of business and bounce off of each other in interesting ways. #. The action...

A Film a Day. Friday, 16 January 2015. See, folks don't care if it's a copy. A fine cast elevate the film a little above it's generally bland telling. Burton never seems to really get beneath the material turning in a competent but slight examination of the pursuit of fame and the uneven treatment of artistic women. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My Year of Games. Thoughts of a gaming freak. Were you rushing or were you dragging? Did you program her to flirt with me? 2 for one gimmick sale. Always c...

A Film a Day. Thursday, 12 June 2014. Top 100 (97) Community Countdown. 80-71. Part one 97-91 found here. Part two 90-81 found here. Really heading into a bunch of episodes that I love and could place in any order now. So letting my gut just pull an ep out, with weaknesses sure, but still wonderful, funny stuff. Well he is right about one thing: You're all terrible people.". Can Abed grow up? Should I, or any of us? He meant we were figh . . ting. It IS hard to think of another word! Another solid but un...

http://mondofilmaday.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
A Film a Day. Monday, 21 January 2013. Well, here I am. Highest grossing film of the year but did it make my list? The last year has not been a great one for me on a personal level (part of the reason for no blogging), but on a cultural one? Not too shabby. Many great books and films were consumed. Short aside to mention a couple of the best books last year - Nao of Brown. Really great slice of life stuff with an amazingly compelling lead character and beautiful artwork. Saga. Right on to the movies then.

A Film a Day. Tuesday, 30 September 2014. On the stairs of Death I write your name, Liberty. Maps to the Stars (2014). A tricky one this. A hard film to like for sure, it is elliptical, distant, outlandish (when the main character outlines plot beats that won't get revealed for a while to Robert Pattinson, you assume, like him, she's making it all up, even the stuff you've already seen happen). Monday, 29 September 2014. The Hotel Grand Budapest (2014). Much as with his earlier films, it mixes great trag...
