Dolwyddelan and Penmachno Railway. Office and Weighbridge buildings at Penmachno Uchaf – based on those still standing at Aberllefenni. Clear plastic shell of building. Cladding shell with slate blocks. Splitting slate for roofing. Most buildings do not have interior detail, but where either there are large access doors, or extensive windows, the interior details are worth spending the time on. Dolwyddelan and Penmachno Railway. January 7, 2017. Over the Christmas break I built an IP Engineering FR Sentry Box brake van to go with the bug boxes. The kit went together well, but I felt the need to detail it and to replace the rear handrail with one fabricated from piano wire and strip so it is more robust. Dolwyddelan and Penmachno Railway. Slate is carried in scratch-built 2-bar wooden slate wagons. These are loosely based on those used by the Talyllyn Railway (e.g. vehicle N0. 164). When traffic demands, four-plank open wagons are also pressed into service, the slate being loaded in crates by crane. The 2-bar slate wagons are built from lime wood microstrip, glued together using Gorilla Glue. Strapping is brass strip with punched rivet detail, and the running gear uses Slaters components.
