Scott's Eastside Blog

Tuesday, March 20, 2018. On Friday, while most folks were enjoying deep powder further north, I made the mistake of trying to ski above Bishop. Thought there would be more snow. Looking down to Aspendell (right) and the approach moraine to Bishop Bowl (left). Good skiing on this short run albeit pretty scary with hidden rocks and brush. A bit surprised by the number of tracks, but the skin up was indeed pretty cruiser. Nice views from the top. Nice to get out! Posted by Scott E. Monday, March 12, 2018.

Scott's Eastside Blog: March 2015

http://eastsidescott.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 9, 2015. Sunday 3/8 Steve and I headed out for an "exercise" tour. Figured we'd head up to Duck Pass and figure it out from there. As we approached Duck Pass we noticed some nice tracks above Barney Lake and noted that the snow was still pretty darn good despite the recent warm temps. At the top of Duck Pass we had the good fortune of meeting longtime Sierra skier John Dittli who was eyeing Pika Peak. We quickly accepted his invitation to join him. Steve and John. Almost there! They do warn...

Scott's Eastside Blog: Crusher in the Tushar

http://eastsidescott.blogspot.com/2013/07/crusher-in-tushar.html

Thursday, July 18, 2013. Crusher in the Tushar. Last weekend I had the incredible fortune to feel super good and strong in an event that was hard, beautiful, and well organized. The Crusher in the Tushar! So let me take you through my day. At least as my oxygen deprived, pain addled brain remembers it! A lot of folks fear pinch flats in this section, but it didn't seem especially rocky and I was nowhere near bottoming out running Clement LAS 33s with 37/39psi. And then it all stopped. No more pain, no mo...

Scott's Eastside Blog: June 2015

http://eastsidescott.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 21, 2015. The Boys Camp Out. Mary spent the better part of the week up in Virginia City drawing on her artistic talents at a water color class, so the boy and I went camping up near Mammoth. I checked out the campgrounds at Big Springs and Glass Creek, but they proved to be a bit busy for my taste so I "boony" camped off the Owens River Road. Found a nice spot with some shade. B approved too (in front of door to the Scamp). Mt Dana distant left and Mono Craters distant right. Posted by Scott...

Scott's Eastside Blog: Bodie and Soul

http://eastsidescott.blogspot.com/2015/07/bodie-and-soul.html

Monday, July 6, 2015. One more big ride before the Crusher. This time on the cross bike! I got an early start from Bridgeport and rolled north on Highway 182 along the scenic East Fork of the Walker River crossing into Nevada shortly before leaving the highway for dirt. Shortly after leaving the highway the road crossed the East Fork. The Sweetwater Mountains in the back. Further along, the road briefly rejoins the river in this beautiful stretch. Mt Grant among the morning haze. Ruins under wild rose.

Scott's Eastside Blog: July 2015

http://eastsidescott.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 17, 2015. Crusher in the Tushar Trip. Mary and I made our annual pilgrimage to the Tushar mountains for the Crusher in the Tushar bike race. We're hooked. The fine scenery, the super hard, well organized race, the cool, high altitude air all keep us coming back. This was my third go. Click here. For my description of the 2013 event - which was nothing short of magical. Thursday before the race Mary and I took a little spin to check out conditions. In fact delightfully perfect! I arrived at t...
