Eat What You Grow

Thursday, August 9, 2012. A Message from Chief Seattle. Someone recently shared an excerpt with me from a book called The Young Rockhound's Handbook. It is an unlikely name for a book containing the excerpt I am about to share, but it is a message that still needs to be heard and reflected on. How can you buy or sell the sky, the warmth of the land? The idea is strange to us. If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them? Our ways are different from your way...

Eat What You Grow: Vlad's Souvlaki: Greek Fast Food in the Palouse

http://eatwhatyougrow.blogspot.com/2012/07/vlads-souvlaki-greek-fast-food-in.html

Wednesday, July 25, 2012. Vlad's Souvlaki: Greek Fast Food in the Palouse. It makes sense that someone would start up a small fast food joint in downtown Moscow, Idaho. Vlad's, however, is a lot different than your typical fast food experience. This new business features Greek fast food on its menu, also known as souvlaki. I know little about Greek fast food other than I like it so when Vlad's opened up, I made a point to stop by to try it. Souvlaki would be nothing without it. In generations past, eatin...

Eat What You Grow: Thrifty Tips: My Birthday Dress

http://eatwhatyougrow.blogspot.com/2012/05/thrifty-tips-my-birthday-dress.html

Monday, May 7, 2012. Thrifty Tips: My Birthday Dress. Alas, Spring is finally here. And so it felt today. A thrift store find in the record books and a birthday present to me. Now what will I do with the rest of the birthday money I saved from this magical thrift store purchase? I also found a lovely lace top (below) that I am hoping will go quite well with a certain pair of birthday jeans, as well as a butterfly tank top and a long cherry sweater (see again below). Eat What You Grow: Nectar: Charming Palouse Cusine

http://eatwhatyougrow.blogspot.com/2012/08/nectar-charming-palouse-cusine.html

Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Nectar: Charming Palouse Cusine. During the last half of July, I traveled through eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, thus all the recent posts from this part of the world. It is surprising how many cafe jewels I've come across in this region! So, here's another one I'd like to share. Read on! If gastronomy is the study of the relationship between culture and food then Nectar. A small restaurant located in Moscow, Idaho, is the place to study it. Why? Come away with me as I ex...

Eat What You Grow: Seafood Pie

http://eatwhatyougrow.blogspot.com/2012/01/seafood-pie.html

Friday, January 20, 2012. On my last full day at the Valdivian Coastal Reserve, we drove to a small restuarant in a tribal community on a bluff just above the ocean. Everywhere I looked I saw the horizon meeting the sea. Just another ordinary view in this region of Chile! There is no excuse, we should be making this back at home! I plan on taking in the views as the scenery flashes by. Chao! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Come away with me as I explore my passion for local eating, try my hand at urb...

One food item i’ve longed to make at home is fresh pasta. two ingredients – flour and eggs. so basic. how hard could it be? When we started trying to eat less preserved/boxed food, i started buying pasta from a seller at west seattle farmer’s market. it is yummy, but the price adds up. i couldn’t help but feel like i should at least try to find a way to make it work at home. Me and my Paul Lee. April 3, 2014. Last week was spring break for Paul, and I cut back on massages so it felt like a break for me too! It was lovely. I wanted to share some pictures we took of our hike at the Palouse Falls. Paul’s sister Sarah came with us and we brought our dogs, and surprisingly they did really well! We will definitely be going back here. This is the view when you first get to the park. Gorgeous. Turn to the right and you get this:. That rock formation to the left of the falls? You are...

Chris makes things, but mostly knits. December 9, 2009 in handmade. Last saturday was one of my very favorite seattle events of the year, urban craft uprising. The days before urban craft are as exciting to me as christmas morning (2 more sleeps until urban craft) and almost as excruciating as a half marathon (need to carb load and hydrate days beforehand). Trend wise, there were TONS of plush toys and felt project booths this year. i fell in love with the plush candy corns from scrumptious delight.

Me and my Paul Lee. February 3, 2014. And it was much easier than I thought it would be. After all was said and done, each candle cost between $3-$5. Pretty darn good, huh? And, no extra junk went in – just soy wax and essential oils. I am very pleased. There are lots and lots of tutorials out there that I read and you should read too to get some good ideas. But, since this is my blog, I’m going to give you my version of how to make your own soy candles. 1 Gather your supplies. 2 Place wicks in jars.

Eat What You Like, Like What You Eat. Moderation is the key to life – Enjoy food and life to the fullest. August 23, 2009. Posted by Meg under Uncategorized. Only a few hours left to enjoy of the weekend! This afternoon was a tad stressful because there were a few issues with tomorrow’s BIG surprise, so while I was at the grocery store I picked up some fresh flowers. And immediately felt better. Flowers do that, ya know? Dinner tonight was a little bit of a mix n’ match. On top I sprinkled:. Vanilla ice ...

Eat What You Love. Love What You Eat. I started on my Christmas Treats yesterday! The first project was caramels. It was a learning process the whole way, but they turned out. I am thinking of doing another batch. The recipe I used is below, but I changed it. I did not have Vanilla beans so I just added more Vanilla extract until it tasted right (probably a little. More than double what the recipe called for). And then I did not put as much salt in (and yes. In the above photo. 1 cup heavy cream. Yields ...
