EDGE - Students: Science Fair

Science Symposium and Science Fair (One day each: March). In March we first organize a one day EDGE science symposium at UAS for teachers and their students. All teachers who participated in the summer workshop, and at least two of their students present their projects and experiences at the symposium. Students and teachers will also attend and participate in the Southeast Alaska Regional Science Fair held at Juneau Douglas High School held at this time. EDGE is primarily an NSF funded project.

Students participate in two separate one-credit, lower division courses. First course is ENVS 110: Introduction to Global Positioning System (GPS). EDGE - Teachers: Online Course

Online Course for Teachers (Fall semester: August to December). This web-based course provides 3 lower division college credits. Course number/Title is: ED 593 Earth System Science Essentials for EDGE Teachers. Teachers gain additional content knowledge and concepts learned during the summer workshop are reinforced through weekly web lessons. University faculty support the teachers as the teachers work with their respective students to implement GIS based projects through weekly audio conference.
