As a baby Ella was always very quiet and not interested in crawling much, preferring to look at books, however, after she turned 2 years old and was still not walking, she was referred to the community paediatrician for review. To reduce the tightness as much as we can Ella has daily stretches at home and every few months she has Botox injected into her hips, thighs and calves followed by sessions of daily intensive physiotherapy.

Skip to main content. Ella's Wish to Walk Website. Ella in the Spider whilst having Physiotherapy at Footsteps. The operation we are saving for is called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy or SDR for short. It involves cutting the nerves that cause the muscles to tighten up after surgery Ella will no longer have this tightness or spasticity in her legs but will need a lot of physiotherapy to rebuild her strength and teach her how to walk properly. The following link gives an overview of the operation performed.
