Ellie Mae was born on the 22nd February 2006 and was the perfect baby in every way. All myself and Billy could do was watch, she had so many drugs,drips and medicines going into her that she was just a mass of tubes, Ellie Mae was on a ventilator and was also on dialysis as her kidneys had stopped working. We sat helpless all we do do was sit and pray that she would pull through. We begged doctors for a little bit of hope but all they would say was that she was critical but stable.

Is your baby getting worse fast? Babies can get ill very quickly, so check often. Tense or bulging soft spot. Very sleepy/staring expression/too sleepy to wake up. Irritable when picked up, with a high pitch or moaning cry. Breathing fast / difficulty breathing. Blotchy skin, getting paler or turning blue. A stiff body with jerky movements, or else floppy / lifeless. Pin prick' rash / marks or purple bruises on the body. Cold hands and feet. Pain/ irritability from muscle aches or severe limb/joint pain.

Our aim at the moment is quite simple. to give Ellie Mae the best possible life and give her all that she could ever need or want, for now and in the future. Also to raise awareness of this devastating disease and what it can do. We are currently trying to raise funds to buy a new wheelchair vehicle as Ellie Mae has now ha d anew wheelchair and it does not fit in our car as it is too heavy! Ellie Mae, came 3rd in the Sentinels (our local paper) Our Heroes Awards for the Child of Courage, and won the Signal Radio's Unsung Heroes Award for the Child of Courage. Quite a lot has happened over the last couple of months. A year has passed since Ellie Mae was taken poorly, which was a very strange day, as we kept thinking back to what we were doing at that time last year.
