Playing in the Dirt: September 2009
http://englishprof-playinthedirt.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Playing in the Dirt. A year-long experiment in growing, trading, and buying food locally. Tuesday, September 29, 2009. I Hope There's Chili Sauce in Heaven. Tonight I cleaned the now-ripe tomatoes from the window sill, took the previously washed tomatoes out of the refrigerator, and cored, peeled, and diced them for- you guessed it- another batch of freezer chili sauce! The recipe for this scrumptious sauce is provided in my previous chili sauce post. I did take a nap today, so I'm good to go. Of course,...

Playing in the Dirt. A year-long experiment in growing, trading, and buying food locally. Sunday, November 29, 2009. A (Mostly) Organic Thanksgiving. I believe it was President Herbert Hoover who promised America "A chicken in every pot." Figuring turkey was close enough, I named my free-range, locally raised turkey "Hoover" in his honor. And Hoover was mighty tasty this Thanksgiving! Seem to maintain any resemblance in name or look, and even then, they are often lumped together as poultry. The candied s...

Playing in the Dirt. A year-long experiment in growing, trading, and buying food locally. Sunday, June 20, 2010. The Only Good Japanese Beetle Is a Dead One. So there I was, resting in my living room chair, drinking a Hansen's Mandarin and Lime soda (made with cane sugar, not high-fructose corn syrup), minding my own business. And then I see it: something black flits by the window. In this picture.). So, for the next couple of months, guess what I'll be doing? Links to this post. Saturday, June 12, 2010.

Playing in the Dirt. A year-long experiment in growing, trading, and buying food locally. Monday, June 6, 2011. Planting Late.As Usual. Between Mother Nature's harassing rains and waxing humidity and my energy roller coaster, I am FINALLY getting around to planting. Perhaps a bit late, but I'll have to do the best I can. Hopefully the heat and humidity (where the hell. Did spring go, by the way? Will force things to grow quickly. I'll save my early spring goodies for fall harvesting. Links to this post.
Playing in the Dirt: Mother Nature Must Not Like Me
http://englishprof-playinthedirt.blogspot.com/2011/05/mother-nature-must-not-like-me.html
Playing in the Dirt. A year-long experiment in growing, trading, and buying food locally. Monday, May 2, 2011. Mother Nature Must Not Like Me. I've decided that Mother Nature doesn't like me very much- she keeps raining on my gardening parade! I only got a little over half of the garden tilled before I ran out of energy and my hands were sore. I planned to till the next day, but- you guessed it- Mother Nature wept. Again. And again. C'mon, Mother Nature- cooperate a little, will ya? I have crops to plant!

Deconstructing Pringles | Chef LJ Klink's Blog

Chef LJ Klink's Blog. Spawning a Passion for Food. Bison, Not Just for Cowboys. The more things change . . . →. August 9, 2009. Preparing to pulverize the pringles. I wanted to determine if the deconstruction of a Pringle could be reconstituted back into something that could be recognized as a potato product. First step was pulverizing the chips which reduced them to the standard potato flake consistency found in instant mashed potatoes. Concerned about the starchiness, I had to make a few decisions&...
