Virtual Currency Application Security. Virtual Currency Application Security. Posted by Stan Carney. On Apr 11, 2014 in Bitcoin. Etc…. The information has always been out there but application developers (sadly) aren’t normally thinking about security. ‘Throwing a firewall’ in front of it just won’t cut it; especially when it means a compromise could cost you the contents of your hot wallet and your dignity, if you are lucky. It is titled Virtual Currency Application Security. April 16, 2014. On the humo...

Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, and CoinIn. Posted by Stan Carney. On Jun 6, 2014 in Bitcoin. I’ve been following Bitcoin since mid 2010. It was particularly interesting to me at the time as my company was processing high-risk payments; high-risk payments which Bitcoin seemed to be ideally suited for. Since then I’ve mined and traded (terribly) Bitcoin and a bunch of other cryptocurrencies like Litecoin and Dogecoin. A few weeks ago I published a document on securing virtual currency applications. As of Jan...

Grails 301 Redirect
http://stancarney.co/2011/10/grails-301-redirect
Posted by Stan Carney. On Oct 19, 2011 in Programming. 301 redirects are the correct way to signify content available at a URL has been permanently moved to a new location. Returning a 301 redirect instructs browsers, web crawlers and other clients accessing your site to use the new page from this point forward. From a development perspective a 302 redirect and a 301 don’t appear to be any different. You hit the old URL and you are sent to the new one. October 19, 2011. It would be a lot nicer if grails ...

Inexpensive Explainer Videos
http://stancarney.co/2013/01/inexpensive-explainer-videos
Posted by Stan Carney. On Jan 23, 2013 in Marketing. I wanted to A/B test a new home page on Vogogo featuring an explainer video. Having been involved only loosely in the process before, it didn’t seem like there were many options outside of using companies that specialized in the creation of explainer videos. Unfortunately, they all seem to fancy themselves as modern day Donald Draper’s. With a budget of $500-$1000. 8211; Animation preferred. 8211; Approximately 1 minute in duration. Posts made in June, 2014. Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, and CoinIn. Posted by Stan Carney. On Jun 6, 2014 in Bitcoin. Based on my experience in traditional payments and building applications. Late 2013 and early 2014 had been frustrating times to watch scammers and incompetence dominate the cryptocurrency landscape only to, predictably, fail a short time later. If cryptocurrencies are ever going to succeed they will have to do better, much better. Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, and CoinIn. On Inexpensive Ex...

Simple Django Asynchronous Processing. Posted by Stan Carney. On Jan 17, 2013 in Programming. Django has several asynchronous processing options available like Celery. They all offer lots of features but if you want something simpler, maybe just the ability to send a webhook on the submission of a form without having the user wait around for the webhook to complete (or the remote site timeout), it seems like overkill.
