The life and ramblings of a mother trapped in a house with small children
Erin-Go-Blog: January 2013
http://erin-e3.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
We ate lots of soup this month. Pea Soup. Squash Soup. Chicken Soup with Corn and Chilies and Bacon. Italian Wedding Soup. We've sampled a bit of everything! For a while it was all our recovering bellies could handle, then it got very cold outside and hot soup became what our insides were craving. We read lots of books this month cuddled on the couch keeping warm! Anything Tomie dePaola (his artwork! Put that book down! Despite the cold, the sun didn't wander. Thank goodness! I made me smile all month!

1 My freezer meals are dwindling. I have really appreciated not having to cook every meal lately. One less thing to do, right? I am making Clam Pasta. For dinner tonight. It is not a freezer meal, but it is super tasty and quick. I am making Overnight French Toast. For breakfast tomorrow- another recipe you should try. While Gussy can't enjoy it (he is allergic to eggs), we love it and you will too! 5 Chris and I have watched the RNC the past few nights with Theo- in a sort of sleepy, hypnotic trance....

Inspired by a shadowbox done by my friend Lauren, I put together a small part of the vast collection of bow ties from Chris' grandfather. Chris wears some of the others, but these are the more colorful and worn favorites of his Grandpa Jacobs that have been laying in the bottom of the box. We have the bow ties hanging in the newly painted upstairs hallway. Painting the hallways and stairwell was a huge project! They were the last rooms in the parsonage to be painted since we moved in 6 years ago (! I hav...
Erin-Go-Blog: Holy Week Recap
http://erin-e3.blogspot.com/2013/04/holy-week-recap.html
Palm Sunday was nice. We were still recovering from a few germies the week before. The kids played at church with their dad (do you like Gus' battle attire for air hockey? Claire and I went out to run a few errands and find an her an Easter dress! Theo happily tags along with whatever we are doing. Our town's annual egg hunt was on Saturday afternoon. Isabel's found the silver egg! She received a special prize in her age group, a new tea set. For the past few years. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

IndianaJane's Homeschool Notebook: 2013-01-20
http://homeschoolnotebook.blogspot.com/2013_01_20_archive.html
Thoughts on homeschooling from a decidely relaxed perspective colored by confessional Lutheranism and burnished by years spent with my wonderful children. Saturday, January 26, 2013. My 17 year old took the SAT today. He's planning to take Latin at the local university this summer and during his senior year next year, so it was time for the test. Jonathan did a little better. And he's writing well in college. But was there really any value in his essay score? What does it demonstrate? We'll know in a few...

IndianaJane's Homeschool Notebook: It really was like that
http://homeschoolnotebook.blogspot.com/2013/01/it-really-was-like-that.html
Thoughts on homeschooling from a decidely relaxed perspective colored by confessional Lutheranism and burnished by years spent with my wonderful children. Sunday, January 27, 2013. It really was like that. Over the last several years I have found myself becoming a bit of an unschooling advocate. There have been lots of, "What did a day look like at your house? They have reasonable standards of personal hygiene.). It gave me lots of years to enjoy life with my kids, on our own agenda. And it really wa...

Day by Day, at home, away: February 2015
http://daybydayathomeaway.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Day by Day, at home, away. Saturday, February 28, 2015. I watched my pennies very carefully during January and February. Recently we had a little relief in our finances. I'm praising God for these blessings. 6 Because I bought something from Memoria Press last year I received a gift card from them at Christmas time so I purchased a Latin DVD for a few dollars plus shipping. 8 Because I'm caught up on paperwork, I have been able to find receipts when I need them. Recently one of our Lambs became aller...

Thoughts on homeschooling from a decidely relaxed perspective colored by confessional Lutheranism and burnished by years spent with my wonderful children. Monday, October 12, 2009. Why not post this here while I'm at it. Better Late Than Early. By Raymond and Dorothy Moore. This is a book that I wish every parent and teacher of young children would read. I read this as the stressed out mother of a non-reading seven year old. And it probably saved my sons academic life and my sanity. By John Taylor Gatto.

Thoughts on homeschooling from a decidely relaxed perspective colored by confessional Lutheranism and burnished by years spent with my wonderful children. Wednesday, December 12, 2007. I thought about doing a Christmas color theme for my blog, but I just like these wintry colors better. Links to this post. Why I love homeschooling, # 1,374. Really, it would be fun to enumerate the reasons sometime. I may have to do that. This month I love homeschooling because of the fact that when something happens.

Thoughts on homeschooling from a decidely relaxed perspective colored by confessional Lutheranism and burnished by years spent with my wonderful children. Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Why I'm not blogging here anymore. I have decided that I am not going to keep writing a separate homeschool blog. It has always been a bit of a struggle. And it probably never really made sense for me to try to separate homeschooling from the rest of my life in the blogosphere, since I don't in my every day life.

Making sure that they learn everything, or not. So back to the topic of my last post. I needed to address the email that asked me "how, as an unschooler, I made sure that my kids learned everything they were supposed to learn.". The answer, while multi-faceted, is simple. There are things that they might have learned if we h...

Thoughts on homeschooling from a decidely relaxed perspective colored by confessional Lutheranism and burnished by years spent with my wonderful children. Wednesday, May 28, 2014. Saturday we formalize the end of our homeschool journey. My youngest is graduating. But we're done. And I really still can't quite believe it. All of the fears. All of the doubts. All of the stress. Conquered. All of the walks. All of the conversations. All of the laughter. Remembered. YOU CAN DO IT. YOU CAN DO IT. YOU CAN DO IT.

IndianaJane's Homeschool Notebook: The choices we make
http://homeschoolnotebook.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-choices-we-make.html
Thoughts on homeschooling from a decidely relaxed perspective colored by confessional Lutheranism and burnished by years spent with my wonderful children. Tuesday, January 29, 2013. The choices we make. So we make choices. We do what we think is best. We pray for good outcomes. We evaluate as we go along. And sometimes we decide that a post is really two posts. And that we will write the post that we thought we already wrote, and answer the email question tomorrow. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

I can't believe you are 1 year old already. Happy Birthday Theodore! We studied the city of Babylon during early April. The Ishtar Gate. Was part of the city wall of Babylon and was decorated in glazed blue tiles (some of the earliest decorated tiles ever excavated! Images of dragons and bulls covered the blue walls. I thought that the gate was beautiful and wanted to recreate it for our home, but we made some minor adjustments. Instead of tiles we used cardboard, construction paper and paints. 3) My fam...
