evangelically incorrect: February 2011
http://evangelicallyincorrect.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Coloring outside the bible box. Tuesday, February 22, 2011. I want to believe. I loved the X-files when it was on. One of the interesting dialectics was the difference in approach to mystery between Mulder and Scully. Scully was the perennial scientist/skeptic, always believing that a rational explanation could be found. Mulder, on the other hand, was always open to the super. Natural, otherworldly, irrational explanation. (And we all know who was right! Must be the devil. Who do I thank? It reminds me o...
evangelically incorrect: April 2011
http://evangelicallyincorrect.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Coloring outside the bible box. Friday, April 8, 2011. I'm no kin to the monkey! We had a memorial service for my mom last Sunday in the town where I grew up. (She died in January.). One of the anecdotes that gained a lot of traction was the story of my mom teaching us sunday school kids the song, "I'm no kin to the monkey." Here's how the chorus goes. I'm no kin to the monkey. The monkey's no kin to me. I don't know much about your ancestors. But mine didn't swing from a tree. Tuesday, April 5, 2011.
evangelically incorrect: Spiritualist Review
http://evangelicallyincorrect.blogspot.com/2012/09/spiritualist-review.html
Coloring outside the bible box. Tuesday, September 25, 2012. The fourth church my room mate (RM) and I went to was a Spiritualist church. If you've never heard of it, I'll get right to the point. They speak to the dead. Right during the service. There were probably about 50 folded chairs set up and we sat near the back. There were only about 3 or 4 other people in the congregation besides us, so it was difficult to "hide." The place was dimly lit, had a typical stage with a pulpit, religious pict...A sto...
evangelically incorrect: The enormity of conformity
http://evangelicallyincorrect.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-enormity-of-conformity.html
Coloring outside the bible box. Saturday, November 24, 2012. The enormity of conformity. Spending Thanksgiving with my Father reminded me how strong the social pressure is/was from my parents (and the culture at large) to be a Christian. Can't I just be an agnostic and have everybody ok with that? Thankfully, my Mom has passed, cuz she was even more fundamentalist than my Dad. And my two sisters seem to be adapting to the new me ok. This is not going to be easy or smooth. November 26, 2012 at 11:17 AM.
evangelically incorrect: Why didn't Jesus stick around?
http://evangelicallyincorrect.blogspot.com/2012/09/why-didnt-jesus-stick-around.html
Coloring outside the bible box. Tuesday, September 25, 2012. Why didn't Jesus stick around? Soon after Jesus resurrected he disappeared into the sky, never to be seen again for about 2000 years so far. Why? But no. He does his disappearing act and for 2000 years we have had confusion and strife over who he was and what he did and what he will do. Aha," you will say, "he went away for two reasons. One, to build a place for us. And two, so that the Holy Spirit could come.". Did he have to exit first? Is Je...

Think and Wonder. Wonder and Think. About religion, science and faith, and human nature. Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Are you prepared.to run? A couple of weeks ago our family attended a preparedness fair hosted by a local LDS church. There were many booths set up around a gym and one of these offered fitness assessments. I hadn't really thought about fitness being part of being part of preparing for a natural disaster (or zombie apocalypse), but it makes sense. November 27, 2012 at 5:01 AM. The Zombie tr...

Think and Wonder. Wonder and Think. About religion, science and faith, and human nature. Wednesday, July 18, 2012. You Didn't Pray for Me. July 19, 2012 at 3:44 AM. I think my icy heart is slowly starting to melt. I understand so well what you are writing about. Maybe cold logic isnt everything. We are emotional creatures and I think that must be taken into consideration. July 19, 2012 at 7:20 AM. I mean our emotions are part of who we are, part of our personalities. Think and Wonder. Wonder and Think...: Hiddenness of God
http://thinkandwonderwonderandthink.blogspot.com/2011/02/hiddenness-of-god.html
Think and Wonder. Wonder and Think. About religion, science and faith, and human nature. Thursday, February 10, 2011. Recently, my husband and I have been talking about the hiddenness of God. I alluded to it in my recent post on the resurrection, where I discussed my frustration over the ambiguous evidence regarding Jesus's resurrection. Did or didn't God perform the miracle of resurrection, the defeat of death, the sign of a general resurrection to come? Which of my premises is false? 2) I am His son.

Why has the institutional church supported war, injustice, and violence? Why would we want to associate with religious fanatics? The Reason for God. August 1, 2010 at 5:54 AM. Think and Wonder. Wonder and Think. About religion, science and faith, and human nature. Thursday, February 3, 2011. Resurrection: Win, Lose, or Draw. I've given my emotional reaction to the book in an effort to disclose the lens through which I read the book, but in another post I'll discuss the stances of Wright and Crossan and summarize the strengths of their respective positions. What is your stance on the resurrection and what has influenced your position? February 3, 2011 at 11:17 AM. Is just the p...

Think and Wonder. Wonder and Think. About religion, science and faith, and human nature. Thursday, January 10, 2013. Having a Little Chat with Myself. After relating the story of my baptism. To my therapist during a session of EMDR. I was asked to imagine what I would like to say to my 10-year-old self, the little girl who was so fearful of being eternally condemned and who felt compelled to obsess over her big toe. I closed my eyes and held the pulsers. Links to this post. Tuesday, January 8, 2013.

evangelically incorrect
Coloring outside the bible box. Sunday, January 20, 2013. Most of us who have hung out together on the blogs in the last couple years have been in a skeptical frame of mind. We want proof. We want to know if what we believe has merit. Where is the evidence? Have I been believing a lie? If you're waiting for the pat on the back, good luck. We get it from each other; that's about it. Those who break out of the previous stage usually do so when they start seriously questioning things on their own. A lot...
